Alex Scarrow is an English author who is best known for his TimeRiders book series. The TimeRiders series is a young adult science fiction series that began in 2010 with the release of TimeRiders.

Prior to becoming an author, Scarrow was a rock guitarist. He spent ten years in the music business, but eventually decided to leave it behind when he realized he would not get a record deal or become famous from his music career. He worked in graphic arts for a bit before becoming a computer game designer. During this career he worked on many big games, including The Thing, Evolva, Legion Arena, and Ultimate Soccer Manager.

He tried to become a screenwriter, but had trouble entering the business. One of his strongest screenplays was A Thousand Suns which he turned into a novel. That novel was a success and he followed it up with Last Light and then October Skies before making his way to the TimeRiders series.

Scarrow makes his home in Norwich, Norfolk, England. He lives with his partner and son.

Silent Tide is the first book in the DCI Boyd Crime series by Scarrow. DCI Bill Boyd has been recently relocated from London to Hastings and his first case sees him on the case of a local business man and his wife who have gone missing in the English Channel. A sinking boat is spotted off the coast and the two are found on the boat, dead. As Boyd investigates the case, a digital trail will put him and his daughter in danger.

Plague Land is the first book in a series of the same name. Leon has just moved to London from New York with his younger sister. The two are struggling to settle into a new school while at the same time there are rumors of a plague making its way through Africa. The virus hits London not long after and the siblings see it firsthand with people turning to liquid right before their eyes. They run for their lives to getaway from it. A month later, the plague has wiped out most of the population and Leon and Grace are trying to stay alive. They make their way to a group of survivors and try to win their trust, but the siblings will soon learn that the virus isn’t their only enemy in this new world.

Scarrow made his debut with A Thousand Suns. This book takes place in April of 1945 and tells the story of when the Allies secretly surrendered to Nazi Germany during World War II for four hours. The high command of the Germans put in motion an audacious plan to save the Fatherland. The plan is to take a squadron of escort fighters, a captured U.S. bomber, and a brave pilot to fly into the heart of America. Half a century later, a rusting plane is discovered sunken off the coast of New York. A young photographer named Chris is sent to take photos of it when he discovers the fragments of Nazi uniforms on the corpses. Chris soon finds that this plane is hiding a secret so terrible that all these years later it could still put him in danger.

The Legend of Ellie Quin is the first book in the Ellie Quin series. The book follows Ellie who is a walking weapon that could destroy everything. That would probably be a good thing as the world is run by corrupt politicians who are bankrolled by big business. She could destroy this world with what is inside her DNA. Someone created the seed for revolution and put it inside the body of this sixteen-year-old girl. There are many after her now, including the Administration and The Reborn, a religious cult who believe she is their Joan of Arc.

The series continues with The World According to Ellie Quin. The book continues after the events of the first book as Ellie now makes her home in New Haven, the domed main city of her home world. It can be a dangerous place for a naive young woman as she can easily become a victim and a statistic. She makes a new friend named Jez who knows her way around as she grew up here. The two have plans to make way off world and will need to do so fast if they hope to avoid a killer sent by the Administration.

TimeRiders is the first book in the series of the same name. The book introduces us to three people who all should have died. Maddy was in a plane that crashed and should’ve died in it. Liam was on the Titanic and should’ve died at sea. Sal should’ve died in a fire. All three were rescued just before tragedy by a mysterious man who whisked them away. The three learn that time travel is no longer just a hope for the future, but a dangerous reality that saved their lives. They were rescued from death as a form of recruitment for the TimeRiders.

Their job here is to protect the world from those who want to change history for their own personal gain. They closely monitor history for deviations and when they detect a change they are alerted of it. Their latest alert is a big one as Nazis from the past are being unleashed to wreak havoc on the present and future. The trio will need to work together if they hope to save the world from destruction.

The second book in the TimeRiders series is Day of the Predator. The story begins as Maddy mistakenly opens a time window which traps Liam sixty-five-million years in the past. He’s being hunted down by deadly dinosaurs and will need to make contact with Maddy and Sal if he hopes to make it out of this alive. Liam will also need to be careful not to change any history while in the past as any wrong move could lead to a whole new reality.
