Alexa Verde is an American romance, Christian, and suspense author known for writing sweet and wholesome books about love, faith, and murder. She wrote her first literary work, a rhymed poem, at the age of eight, and since then, she has had 200 short stories, poetry, and articles published in five different languages. She has a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and English and a master’s degree in Russian. Her books feature characters from different diverse cultures.

Before becoming a full-time author, Verde worked as a teacher, reporter, model, caretaker, translator, and secretary. She speaks five languages, and most of her books have been translated into these languages as an appreciation. After touring worldwide and visiting the two hemispheres, Verde decided to live in a rural town in southern Texas, a place that inspired her to set her popular Secrets of Rios Azules series.

It’s a Christian multicultural romance suspense book that will have you guessing and asking questions right from the start to the very end, and when you think you’ve supposed everything right, you find out you’ve figured it all wrong.

We are introduced to Dr. Luke Goodman from Suave Dallas as he travels to the rural town of Rios Azules in Texas. His purpose of the visit is to discover the whereabouts of a girl named Mari Del Lobo, the sister of Tony Del Lobo, popularly known as “The Smiling Killer,” who allegedly died in a fire witnessed by Mari a year ago. It happened that Luke’s girlfriend was one of the serial killer’s victims. But when a series of killings resembling The Smiling Killer’s techniques occur near Rio Azules, Dr. Luke strongly suspects that Tony Del Lobo is dead and embarks on a journey to investigate.

Luke strongly suspects that Mari is covering up for her brother and that she too could be involved in the homicides. But when he meets Mari by chance and the two accidentally touch, sparks fly, and chemistry kicks right in and draws them together. However, the two are reluctant to confess what they feel deep down. After all, the two come from two different worlds and share a mutual distrust that can deny them a future together. But time is a healer; over time and through circumstances, the walls they’ve built to protect themselves wear down, allowing them to feel a connection again.

But then, when everything is almost set in motion, another murder occurs, and soon the two find themselves working together to fit the pieces of the murder puzzle. Is the Smiling Killer alive and bent on unleashing revenge, or is there a copycat serial killer on the loose? Alexa Verde keeps the reader guessing immediately through twists and turns that create enough suspense.

The book starts off with some decent high stake tension and does not let go throughout the story. There is not a lot of action in the story, but as expected, this book is structured more psychologically. As a reader, you will get to a point where you won’t trust anyone, even the main characters themselves.

The heroine, Mari, is the type of character that will make you smile. She is feisty, spunky, determined, loves fiercely, and does not allow anyone to put her into any expectation. She only relies on herself and has created a wall of protection around her heart to ward off any potential male who only wants to leave her heartbroken. And through her, we learn that such walls we build around ourselves don’t protect us but only isolate us from the world.

On the other hand, Luke is a charming doctor who thinks he’s a part detective, and his protective instincts make him a more likable character.

On a deeper level, Color of Danger has many themes; a major one is the theme of forgiveness. As readers, we learn that we all need forgiveness, but it becomes almost impossible to forgive the face in the mirror. Her past makes Mari believe she is beyond redemption and forgiveness. Mari once thought she was worthy of God’s love, but now she believes she’s not worthy of forgiveness. But the author reveals that no one is beyond God’s grace as His mercy is limitless.

God’s presence is ever present throughout the novel. Mari was used to prayers, but ever since his brother died, she hasn’t been able to do that. But Verde also reveals to us that God never moved away from Mari. Instead, it was Mari who moved away from God. We further learn that through hard times we tend to push God away from us; when it’s in during the hard times, we need to draw closer to him and ask for His strength.

Then there is the theme of trust. The circumstances we find ourselves in make it hard to trust other people and God. Through this story, we learn that not everyone we meet will let us down, as salvation sometimes comes through the strangers God sends us.
In Show Me a Marriage of Convenience, the first in Cowboy Crossing Romances, we meet Kade Clark, a single father who’s shocked when his babysitter proposes. His ex-wife left her for another man and took everything from him except their boy (Landon), which marked the start of a bad day for Kade. He’s had three near-death experiences in a single day and wonders what would happen to his son if he’d died.

Kade agrees to marriage but soon finds that there is more to Heather than he ever imagined. Heather has taken care of most of Kade’s son’s life. Her father made her vow to ask Kade for marriage but never imagined it would ever work as Kade is a cheater and Heather is just a 40-year-old nanny. She is nothing like the woman who broke Kade’s heart. She never wants him to leave and take his son with him. She loves the boy despite having a crush on his father, but she’s shocked when Kade agrees.

Show Me a Marriage of Convenience is an intriguing journey of the ups and downs of love and family. We learn that God has a plan for every one of us and our future, as seen through the lives of these three characters.
