Her Life Story

Aline Templeton grew up in Anstruther, on the east coast of Scotland and this is where her inspiration to write her series DI Marjory Fleming grew from. She went to school in St. Andrews and she went on to study English at Cambridge University for three years and was more than happy to spend time reading which was her passion.

After University, Aline Templeton spend some time teaching and sharing her love for literature with her students. She worked on article writing, newspaper stories, magazine stories, worked on local radio and regional TV. All these happened while working on her fist book. Aline Templeton worked as a justice of Peace for ten years and this greatly helped her when writing court scenes in her novels. She was the Chair lady of Authors in Scotland.

Aline Templeton got married to Ian and together they were blessed with two children and had three beautiful dogs. She lost one of her dogs Lucy who used to sit next to her as she wrote. Their son Phillip and daughter Clare are their pride and joy. She has lived in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and she is currently living in Edinburgh in a house with a spectacular view of the castle and the Edinburgh city skyline. Her children are now grown up and she has grandchildren in Kent who she loves to visit. Her son Phillip a criminal defense lawyer helps her with advice to keep her on track.

How her career grew

Aline Templeton learned how to read at age four and developed a lasting relationship with books from there. She wrote her first novel at age six writing it on sheets of paper and stitching it to hold it together. She continued writing in her twenties and thirties. She wrote short stories and articles which were published in magazines and newspapers both locally and overseas. Her first crime novel was published in her late thirties and she went on to write eleven more books six of which, were novels and the rest a book series.

Aline Templeton loves writing crime novels because of the thrill, the puzzles and the anticipation of what will happen next in the story. It is exciting to guess the clue to the next mystery and be so sure you know the answer but when you read on you find that the story had a different ending. This makes her enjoy the stories herself as she writes them for her readers.

The DI Marjory Fleming

After writing six crime novels, she decided to write a series of book to keep her beloved characters alive. The character was a female detective DI Marjory Fleming who had a passion for justice and at the same time funny and strict. The detective had a normal life with loving a loving husband, children and friends, going through life with its usual ups and downs. DI Marjory Fleming worked with her male partner DS Tam MacNee. A short man with acne on his face and a gap in his teeth. He was always dressed in a pair of jeans and a white t-shirt and he played his part well to solve the mysteries.

As the series starts, DI Marjory Fleming finds herself all alone after a disastrous disease strikes farmers destroying their crops and affecting and killing their livestock. She has to enforce the law for a vast generation of livestock to be wiped out and crops to be buried. Her friends who are all in the farming business and are not too happy with her. Even with all this going on her marriage is on the rocks. Amidst all this disaster the remains of people are discovered near the market town. DI Marjory Fleming has to solve the mystery of the dead body and a girl who has gone missing.

The series features the problems the fishermen go through after their fishing industry is destroyed by the death of three key players. DI Marjory Fleming has to find out what really happened to the crew. Also featured in the series is the suffering by common families caused by very high priced homes, the effects of rich people owning vast business is featured in a town threatened by a upcoming superstore plan. The killing of two victims in a random shooting in the town catches the eye of DI Marjory Fleming who works to find out the motives of the killings. In the series is the effect of workers influx , how forces of nature bring disaster to a community, the effects of lying which are depicted in a soldier who faces hostility from his lies, the search for the truth by a woman unearths bitter memories.

The DI Marjory Fleming books look at life in many different angles, they show how people can be cruel to others and how some people put their selfish needs first not considering how other people will be affected by their actions. It shows how people can be mean to someone who means them no harm and is simply doing their job, doing what is required of them for their good and the whole community at large. It shows the problems that poor people go through when their sources of livelihood is cut short or their way of trade is interrupted. The problems that average people go through when they cannot find accommodation which falls within their budget. It shows that choices have consequences and it is best for people to live well with other people and live without pretending to be or to have what they do not have. It shows that bad things can happen to anyone and it shows a world where people are friendly, trustworthy and good friends and neighbors.

This series brings you laughter, tragedy, mystery and leaves you captivated, guessing and yearning for more of detective DI Marjory Fleming. If you are looking for a good read then any or all of Aline Templeton’s novels are a good read.
