Alison James
Alison Jones was born in the Cotswolds however she spent much of her formative years abroad. She studied languages at Oxford, before becoming an author and a journalist, going back to university after having her two kids to get a law degree.

After her three year stint as a criminal paralegal, she worked as a commercial copywriter and then as a TV storyliner, before she came full circle to writing fiction once more.

During her time as a paralegal, she worked on some serious criminal cases which included fraud, rape, and murder. This meant that her working day involved liaising with police detectives and watching as they solved cases. It was only a few years later, after her stint writing for television drama, that she realized her experience working in crime actually qualified her to write police procedurals herself.

After a few efforts at coming up with characters, Detectives Rachel Prince and Mark Brickall came into being, and their first three cases were all published in the year 2018.

Alison has been a fan of thrillers and crime writing since she was in her teens, and she still enjoys reading new crime fiction.

“Now She’s Gone” was nominated for a McIlvanney Prize for Best Novel in the year 2018.

Alison’s debut novel, called “Lola is Missing”, was released in the year 2018. Her work is from the thriller and mystery genres.

“Lola is Missing” is the first novel in the “Detective Rachel Prince” series and was released in the year 2018. The little girl stirred and then opened her eyes. The light from the landing played a shadow over her toy cupboard. It was at that moment that she realized, somebody was in the room with her.

Michelle Harper finds her world shattered when Lola Jade (age six) has been kidnapped from the safety of her own bedroom. Michelle is saying that her ex-husband took their daughter, however Lola’s dad is denying that it was him. Family, neighbors, and friends are all saying that they did not see anything. But somebody has to know where the small girl is. Who’s lying? And who exactly is telling the truth?

Detective Rachel Prince knows that the longer a child remains missing, the less likely it is they will be found alive. Will she find Lola Jade before time runs out?

This is a gritty, tense, and highly suspenseful thriller novel that captivates you right from the opening sentence. The twists and turns come and never stop, and they have you gasping in surprise.

“Now She’s Gone” is the second novel in the “Detective Rachel Prince” series and was released in the year 2018. She took in a mouthful of the sweet liquid and began feeling a pounding in her head. Arms went around her waist and she was half pulled, half lifted. The last thing that she was aware of was her head hitting a step.

Emily, a sixteen year old with everything to live for. A beautiful and bright teen with a promising future ahead. However one dark night her life gets cut short. The cops say that it’s an accident. But her parents are saying she was murdered.

Detective Rachel Prince gets called in to investigate this tragic incident. And she soon finds a chilling connection with the suspicious death of another student that stayed in the exact same ancient and sprawling guesthouse in the center of Edinburgh two years before Emily did. Right as Rachel realizes she’s hunting a serial killer, one painful relationship from her past begins to catch up with her. However will her secrets put somebody that she loves in danger? And can she stop this killer, before they can strike again?

This is a well done procedural with a nice steady pace and a cast of characters that are likable. Brickall and Prince’s banter is enjoyable.

“Perfect Girls” is the third novel in the “Detective Rachel Prince” series and was released in the year 2018. Melissa, Phoebe, and Tiffany all made one small mistake. Phoebe Stiles, age twenty-five, opens up the door to her perfect apartment she has no idea that it is the mistake that is going to get her killed.

The body of the gorgeous English girl is found some months later, having been dumped behind the back of a department store. However who was that stranger that she let into the safety of her own home?

While Detective Rachel Prince puts the pieces together on the mystery of Phoebe’s death, another blonde and young girl is discovered brutally murdered and abandoned in the grounds of the old theater. In Rachel’s most dangerous case of her entire career, she has to track down this faceless individual in order to make the body count stop rising. However to uncover this shocking truth, she must put herself at risk. Can she catch this twisted murderer, before they can catch her?

This is another intriguing and fast paced read from Alison. Rachel is a fantastic character and has gotten even more stubborn, stronger, and determined to solve the case.

“The School Friend” is the first stand alone novel and was released in the year 2019. Lucy Whedon has got a secret. She has a beautiful home which she is desperate to escape from. However this isn’t her secret. Even though she tells her friends that she has never wanted kids, she always has. That also is not her secret. Her husband is a celebrated surgeon, that attempts controlling her. Again, not her secret.

Adele knows. Once upon a time, Lucy knew everything about her and Adele knew everything about Lucy. Best friends forever. However now their secret is starting to rise up to the surface. Lucy can trust her more than anybody, because they made a pact. And she would never do anything to hurt Lucy. Right?

Alison takes the reader on a dizzying ride, and this is a perfect roller coaster. She grabs you right from the first chapter, and there are plenty of thrills throughout. As always, her characters are incredibly believable and well written.
