Early and Personal Life
Born in 1969 on the 29th of September, Allison Brennan was brought up in San Carlos, California. Graduating from the Menlo School situated in Atherton, California, she went on to attend the UC Santa Cruz College from the years of 1987 up to 1989. In-between the years of 1992 to 2005 she worked for the California State Legislature as a legislative consultant.
Marrying Dan Brennan in 1993, she’s lived with him ever since along with their five children. Whilst producing an average of three books per year, she spends much of her free-time looking after her kids and enjoying sports, reading and video games. All this from her home in Northern California where she currently resides.
With over twenty-three novels to her name now, she enjoys her success as an author creating action-packed crime fiction with a dash of romance. Writing full-time, she has a wide-ranging audience growing every day, both nationally and internationally. This was after she finished as legislative consultant taking up writing instead.
Focusing on suspense, she is now doing what she has always wanted to do, as she’s unmatched within her specific field. This looks set to continue as she shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. With both commercial and critical success she will continue writing from her home in Elk Grove into the foreseeable future.
Writing Career
After turning away from her job as a legislative consultant, Allison Brennan embarked on a career doing what she loved; writing. Starting in 2005, she published her first book, ‘The Prey’, which was to be her initial book in the ‘Predator Trilogy’.
From then on she was to publish approximately three novels a year on average. With a penchant for suspense, she is a well regarded author for her ability to keep her audiences on the edge of their seats. Although she uses romance as well, she’s equally recognized for skill in writing thrilling story-lines and in-depth characters.
Using a dark edge to the action, she offsets it well with her romance angle layered on top. No stranger to awards either, she’s gained her fair share of critical praise over the years as well. Winning the Borders Award in 2006 for her debut as a bestselling author, she’s been collecting them ever since. With over fourteen awards and counting this trend shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
Having produced an insurmountable amount of novels, five of Brennan’s books have been placed within over a 1000 libraries worldwide. Translated into a variety of different languages, she’s had her books adapted into Norwegian, Japanese and German to name a few. The majority of these have also managed to reach the top of the bestseller lists on numerous occasion.
This is a trend that appears to be showing no signs of diminishing anytime soon, as she’s set to release further books from now into the future.
The Prey
Originally published in 2005 on the 27th of December, this was to be the book that initially set-up Brennan’s ‘Predator Trilogy’. An impressive debut novel, it helped to establish the overall tone that she’d come to employ over the years.
It also managed to convey many of the characters and their arcs within the series as well. Focusing on Rowan Smith, this novel takes a look at her career as a writer as she lives in a borrowed Malibu beach-house whilst a Hollywood movie is set to be made out of her very latest best-selling novel. It may seem that she is living the fantasy life she’s always dreamed of, but she’s haunted by her past as an FBI agent, giving her demons in her closet.
That’s when he past returns as she soon finds herself heading for Colorado learning of a murder victim who was brutally dismembered. The thing is, the corpse and the identity of the victim bear strong similarities with that of one of the characters in her novel.
She soon discovers that there’s a killer on the loose who might be directly inspired by her work. It is then up to her to go back into her own past as an agent and find out who is the person responsible for these deaths.
Will she be able to find the murderer in time before it’s too late? What are the links between her and the killer and why are they doing what they’re doing? Can she keep herself safe in the process as the hunter catches the prey?
Speak No Evil
Following on from her ‘Predator Trilogy’, this was to be the book that set-up her ‘No Evil Trilogy’. First published on the 30th of January, 2007, it helped establish a new set of characters for what was to be a different direction for her.
Whilst it set-up a new story arc, it still followed many of the Brennan trademarks that her readers had now come to expect and appreciate from her. After Angie Vance is murdered a case is opened leaving some highly troubling details in the evidence, especially those involving the circumstances of her death.
Killed through the use of glue being used to seal off her mouth, she was left suffocated within a garbage bag whilst obscenities were scrawled across her chest. With the circumstances of the death seeming so personal in their nature, detective Carina Kincaid is left suspecting whether or not it’s the victims older ex-boyfriend.
The problem is, this ex is also the brother of one Sheriff Nick Thomas, who’s out to investigate himself as he protests his brother’s innocence along the way. Soon though he may have to face up to facts about the true nature of his brother as Thomas and Kincaid come to find a true danger with a psychopath that will go to any lengths to ensure that its victims really do speak no evil.
