Bringing in historical and paranormal romance elements, she manages to create diverse and exciting fiction. This unique outlook of hers has really accelerated over time, seeing her become one of the most prominent authors currently working to date. Giving her work a real thrust, she manages to set herself apart, writing romantic fiction that pushes the boundaries of what the historical romance genre can do.
As a forward-thinking novelist, her work is imbued with a definite sense of personality, giving it a feeling of vitality. This rings true for all her novels, as each of them really flourishes with a sense of life and purpose, saying something entirely different in the process. Whether it’s Highland warriors or stories of courage and bravery in the heart of Europe, she’s always sure to give it her all. Letting her work essentially speak for itself, too, she manages to say something whilst also making sure to entertain the reader.
Her success can be seen reflected in her book sales, as she has achieved popularity both far and wide. Reaching readers from all over, she has a universal appeal to her work, which is evident in both her themes, concepts, and ideas. It’s also noteworthy that her characters are so well established, too, as they really do feel like they’re actually living, breathing people. There’s so much more to come yet, too, as she carries on growing from strength to strength, with lots more planned for the future.
Early and Personal Life
From early on, it was no secret that Alyson McLayne had a gift for writing, showing a talent from a young age. This skill of hers would develop over time, evolving into the versatility she currently shows as an author to this day. Attending the University of Alberta, she would receive a degree in theater, showing a clear gift for creativity and expressing herself.
Later she would go on to move to the west coast of Canada, whereby she would gain some insight into the entertainment industry. Following this, she would begin to focus more heavily on her writing, finding her own distinct creative voice with which to write. Currently living in Vancouver, she lives with her husband and their two children, as she continues to write regularly and consistently.
Writing Career
The first book that Alyson McLayne would publish was titled ‘The Fabrizio Bride,’ which would come out back in 2016. This book would also go on to begin her soon-to-be much-loved series ‘Sizzling, Sexy, Santa Barbara,’ with ‘The D’amici Mistake’ following on later that year. Mostly writing historical romance novels, she would show attention to detail and research whilst also not forgetting to entertain the reader.
Another series would be that of her ‘Sons of Gregor MacLeod’ collection of books, along with her ‘Second Sons’ series. Nominated for several Romance Writers of America awards, she gained several prestigious awards and nominations over the course of her writing career. Maintaining a strong profile both offline and on, she continues to communicate with her audience and is definitely a writer to watch.
The D’amici Mistake
Originally published through the Smashwords Edition publishing imprint, this would first come out on the 3rd of April in 2016. Released not long after her first debut novel, this would be the second book from Alyson McLayne, as she carried on with another self-contained romance. It was the second book in the ‘Sizzling, Sexy, Santa Barbara’ series, but it could be read entirely by itself if needs be.
They both had one night together during a wedding that they’ll never forget, despite all their attempts to the contrary. The heiress Elena Berruci and the self-made man Santo D’amci sneaked away from the celebrations to have a passionate tryst, and now they’re desperately trying to put it behind them. Try as they might, though, they can’t seem to tear themselves apart, as Santos attempts to convince Elena that marriage is the only answer. Will they ever finally end up together once and for all, can they overcome their differences, and what will become of the D’amci mistake?
This standard, straightforward romance does what it sets out to, and it does it all extremely well too. There’s so much character development here, and the reader is left really caring for the plight of the people throughout the course of the novel. It’s a great story and one the audiences will be sure to enjoy every single step of the way to its grand and epic finale.
Highland Conquest
Initially coming out through the Sourcebooks Casablanca publishing label this time, this would be ‘The Sons of Gregor MacLeod’ series book four. While the books are all set in the same world, they can be read as stand-alone historical romance novels, as they’re easy to pick up at any point. They do provide something for returning fans, too, though, as there are characters and themes brought over from previous novels.
Leading his clan after being left with no choice, Laird Lachlan MacKay was left to do the job following the murder of his older brother. Hoping to avenge the death of his brother, he finds himself within the heart of the MacPherson clan, meeting their beautiful healer Amber. Running in Lachlan dressed as a boy, Amber MacPherson is hoping to escape the treacherous leader of her clan once and for all. Can he keep her safe from the same man who murdered his brother, will they end up together, and what will become of the Highland conquest?
Bringing romantic history into full glorious color, this story really does have so much life to it, paying close attention to detail all the way. From the characters to the setting to the overall world, it’s all managed well with due care, diligence, and purpose. The story itself is very well written, too, as the narrative flows along nicely with confidence, drawing the reader in from the outset.
