Reichert would release her first novel, making her name with the stand-alone romance ‘The Coincidence of Coconut Cake.’ She would soon follow up her success just one year later in 2016 with ‘Luck, Love and Lemon Pie,’ which was another stand-alone romance. Later ‘The Simplicity of Cider’ would come out in 2017, followed by ‘The Optimist’s Guide to Letting Go’ in 2018, ‘The Kindred Spirits Dinner Club’ in 2021, and ‘Once Upon a December’ 2022.
Over the years Reichert has made a name for herself within the contemporary romance and ‘chick-lit’ genres. Appreciated by both the critics and the general public alike, she’s hugely popular and will continue to grow in popularity for years to follow.
The Simplicity of Cider
A contemporary romance novel, this would first come out in 2017 on the 16th of May, working essentially as a stand-alone. Not being a part of any series, it makes for a perfect summer read, with its fun and feel-good romance plot set at the heart of it. Initially released through the ‘Gallery Books’ publishing label, this is ideal for not only fans of the author, but of the romance genre as a whole.
Taking place in Door County, Wisconsin, this sees Sanna Lund, a cider-maker, being devoted to her family’s orchard, as she’s fifth generation. Whilst her brother wants their father to sell up the land, she wants to keep it in the family, and it’s into this that Isaac Banks arrives with his young son Sebastian. Fleeing his troubled wife, Sebastian’s mother, the two of them hope to make a new life here, but things start to get complicated between Sanna and Isaac, as the two of them develop feelings for one another. Will she be able to save the farm, can they make a new life for themselves and ward off the new threat on the horizon, and what will become of the simplicity of cider?
This is an easy-going book that’s definitely one that’s simple to pick-up, with it being a straightforward and engaging story. The characters all feel real, with genuine motivations driving them all forwards, making for an extremely compelling narrative. Its location is also well established too, with the rural world and environment of Wisconsin really being brought to life.
The Kindred Spirits Supper Club
First brought out in 2021 on the 20th of April, this would be a later book from Amy E. Reichert, as it would combine romance and the supernatural. With a lot of humor and heart, it’s a massively entertaining story that really captures the attention of the reader from the outset. It’s not a part of any overall series, with it being a stand-alone, and it was originally released through the Berkley publishing imprint.
Forced to return home to Wisconsin, journalist Sabrina Moore must face some of the literal ghosts of her past. It’s the Moore family curse that they must deal with spirits that come to them for help and assistance in the afterlife, and, besides Molly the rom-com loving ghost Sabrina grew up with, she’s always sent the rest to her mother. Then she meets Ray, a local restaurateur who invites Sabrina to his supper club, and the two of them begin to form a close and intimate bond. Will they both become an item, can Sabrina deal with her family ‘curse,’ and what will become of Ray and Sabrina at their kindred spirits supper club?
Combining elements of magical-realism with contemporary romance, Reichert really makes the most of the genres here. The story itself is extremely feel-good, as it really works at drawing the reader in to its rich and engagingly well drawn world. With characters that the reader actually cares about too, it’s easy to get swept up in it all, really rooting for them, and having fun along the way.
