Andrea Mara is an Irish published author.
She is married and resides in Dublin, Ireland with her spouse and three children.
Andrea’s first book was The Other Side of the Wall. It was a number one bestseller in Irish Crime on Amazon and made the shortlist for the Kate O’Brien Award in 2018. She followed that up with her book One Click which was shortlisted for the Irish Crime Novel of the Year and was number one in Amazon in the category of Irish crime and Northern Irish Crime.
She has since published several more novels since her debut, including The Sleeper Lies, All Her Fault, Hide and Seek, No One Saw a Thing, Someone in the Attic, and It Should Have Been You. No One Saw a Thing was a best seller in Ireland and on Kindle, while Hide and Seek was a bestseller for five weeks in the Irish Times and made the shortlist for the Irish Crime Novel of the Year. Meanwhile, All Her Fault also was a top ten bestseller on the Sunday Times and Irish Times, was named the Sunday Times Crime Novel of the Month, and was a top five bestseller on Kindle, as well as being shortlisted to make the Irish Crime Novel of the Year.
All Her Fault has also been given a straight to series order from Peacock for an adaptation of Mara’s novel. The series order was announced as part of the Television Critics Association winter press tour. Megan Gallagher will adapt the story to the screen as well as serve as executive producer along with others from Carnival Films, which will also produce.
Andrea worked in the Funds Industry as an employee for a decade, and then seven more years as a working mother, until 2015. She began a blog while back at work following a third maternity leave while thinking over how to manage a life of full-time work as well as her children and started writing on the blog to let off steam as well as to connect with women who were also out there and in similar situations.
Andrea named the blog Office Mum but then had a surprise when her office closed down in April of 2015. She was offered redeployment or redundancy, and decided that she would turn the blogging side project into a career for herself. She moved away from the office and started doing freelance writing for newspapers and magazines. She had plans to try it out for six months, but it worked so well that she did it for four more years until a huge change came along.
This would be taking on the world of fiction, with Andrea penning crime fiction in particular. The result would be The Other Side of the Wall, released in 2017.
The author describes herself as someone who takes notes, makes lists, keeps diaries, and takes photographs. Her blog she says became a personal record, a hobby, a soapbox, an extension of all of her cataloging. While the posts are not up as much as they were back when she was still attempting to actively navigate three young children, her job, sleepless nights, and more, she enjoys that it remains as a digital scrapbook of her life with her kids.
Andrea resides in Dun Laoghaire, a place that she loves, especially walking on the pier. It was while on the pier one morning walking that she decided that it would be a good time to start the blog. She could order her thoughts and push away the cobwebs. It was then that she pressed send on an outline that would eventually lead to her securing the book deal and getting her first novel published.
