Angie Fox is New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of novels about werewolves, demon slayers, and nocturnal creatures that jump high in the night. Fox characters are clear and fearless, however, in real life, she is scared of bee, basements and going upstairs when it is dark. A fact is that she would not last a single minute in one of her books. She is popularly known as the author of Demon Slayers series and Southern Spirits mysteries. Fox is an alumnus of the University of Missouri and lives in St. Louis with her loving football addict husband, her two kids, and Moxie, the dog.

The author published the debut novel in Demon Slayer series, The Accidental Demon Slayer in 2008. The second novel in the series The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers was released in 2009. On the other hand, Fox published the first book in Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries titled Southern Spirits in 2015.

The Accidental Demon Slayer

It is never good day especially when an ancient demon shows up in your toilet bowl, but for Lizzie Brown, it is just the beginning. Soon her terrier starts talking, and her long-lost witch grandmother starts hurling Smucker’s jar full of magic. However, when she thinks she has seen it all, Lizzie discovers that she is a demon slayer, and hell is bent lose after her.

Of course, demons are not the only thing after her soul. Dimitri Kallinikos, a charming shape-shifting Griffin needs her to slay a demon of his own. However, how can you convince a girl you have never met into going directly to the underworld? Possibly a through the lie, but if that does not work, how lethal could be a little seduction be?

The first novel installment is exciting and an interesting read. The author introduces the reader to Lizzie Brown, the main character in a way you have never seen before. Reading the novel, you will realize that Lizzie Brown grew up with her adoptive parents and never got the chance to know her real family. This forms a basis for a strong female character considering that she is “all alone” in this cruel world. However, she is super excited when she learns that her grandmother finally found her and is about to pay her a visit. However, we all know that our expectations do not always match with the reality.

So when her granny finds her way to Lizzie house, Lizzie is shocked to find out that her grandmother is indeed a real witch and a hardcore biker. The moment her granny shows up in her apartment, Lizzie the unsuspecting lady can understand actually what her dog says and encounters an assassin demon, and from that time, her quiet and well-planned life bounces straight to hell.

The main character, Lizzie is the main reason why this novel worked. She possesses a full healthy dose of humor and irony, and her thoughts and remarks will make your chuckle as your browse through pages. She matures as a character, and her development is one that which is believable.

There’s some romance in this book, but to surprise, this love never gets in the way of the main plot. You will also like the coven of witches who are also a biker gang using road kills as their magic ingredients. The dog speeches featured in this novel are quite amusing. Isn’t it funny when you have got a dog that can express his ideas, and have some real conversations?

On the other hand, you will encounter the elegant shape-shifting Dimitri. He is a good person, and the feelings between him and Lizzie progress a little quicker that you would expect or you could say that people get a bit more nostalgic when the End Of The World card is about to be played.

The main and the supporting cast in this novel are brilliant and original. Frieda, Ant Eater, and Grand are interesting in their way. Pirate, the cute little dog who is capable of speaking to Lizzie after her powers are unlocked, is the funniest and the cutest thing you ever read. The author, Fox manages to forge her way inside a dog’s head and captures its imagination.

Southern Spirits

This is the first novel in Southern Ghost Hunter mysteries written by Angie Fox. The story starts out after Verity Long; a graphic designer out of work accidentally traps a ghost on her property. She is charged with more than just a supernatural sidekick- she can see spirits. The latest turn of events leads to an offer that she cannot deny from the brother of her ex-boyfriend and the last man she can ever partner with.

Ellis Wydell possesses an extraordinary historic property and hunted by some of Sugarland Tennessee’s finest former citizens, but a few of them are growing destructive and restless. As a result, she hires Verity to bring an end to all these disturbances. However, Verity learns that there is more to the bizarre estate than the secret passageways, floating specters, and the hidden rooms. The first novel in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries is an interesting read; we encounter Verity the lead character who is to lose the property her grandma left her because she is bankrupt, and prosecuted by the person she was to marry. It did not even help that she dumped him at the altar and even showed up at the reception to smash cake in his face. Unfortunately to her, his family infamous and one of the successful ones in Sugarland and so she is pretty much toast.

When cleaning the last of the items after the auction, she discovers an odd urn, scrubs it out but that too late because a ghost named Frankie is now haunting her. With some help from Frankie, she ends up being entangled in a local mystery alongside with a handsome sheriff Ellis, brother to his sleazy ex-boyfriend. As expected, Verity keeps it is a secret as the two embark on an adventure exploring dangerous areas that seem not only haunted by ghosts but also by a poltergeist.

I found Angie Fox quite by accident in a second book store. I have now downloaded these books to my my kindle. I find them interesting and amusing. A good book can make the day breeze by as we wait for what ever reason: hospitals, doctors appts or waiting on someone.
