Anita Kelly is an American author best known for Love & Other Disasters and the Moonlighters novella series that is based around a queer karaoke bar.

The author grew up in a small town in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, but now makes their home in the Pacific Northwest with her wife and child. She enjoys living in the area as she is able to spend time in the woods when she can. In their free time, Anita enjoys a nice cup of team and overindulging in ice cream.

Kelly is a self-proclaimed lover of romance of “all stripes” and focuses on the queer romance genre in her writing. Her first full-length novel, Love & Other Disasters, was released in January of 2022.

Love & Other Disasters follows Dahlia Woodson who is recently divorced and on the verge of going bankrupt. She decides to reinvent herself and signs up to compete on the popular reality competition show Chef’s Special. She gets off to a rough start when she falls flat on her face and sends a plate of tacos flying. She is not deterred by this though and remains focused on winning. Then she meets someone that she wants m ore than the prize money.

London Parker had to announce their pronouns on national television and has a ton on their mind with this competition, they don’t have time for anyone else like this klutzy competitor. They are doing the show to prove the trolls, including their own father, wrong. Falling in love is not apart of their plan.

However, London and Dahlia get closer and the problems of the real world start to fall away. Dahlia stops thinking about her divorce or her future, and London’s stress over transphobia fades away. The two begin a love affair and begin having fun together, doing spontaneous things like wedding crashing and making dips into the Pacific Ocean. The show’s finale is drawing near and their relationship begins to feel the heat. The two must figure out, together, if they have what it takes for a happily ever after.

Sing Away is the first of the novellas in the Moonlighters series. A non-binary history professor named Sam Bell has decided on a new romantic strategy of Thirst Only. Drinking only leads to getting hurt. Sam is good at being thirsty, especially on karaoke night at The Moonlight Cafe. It’s usually a safe and comfortable place for the, but on this night all of their friends leave them. They are prepared to go home when they spot their karaoke crush. Lily Fischer likes karaoke night as it is the only time she can step outside of her quiet shell. She likes it here because she can pretend to be someone else who takes what they want. What she wants tonight is Sam. The two will both have their personal fears tested as the real world outside of the Cafe looms. Can they find the courage to bring a bit of karaoke night, and they way they are on that night, to the real world?

Our Favorite Songs is another book in the Moonlighters series. Aiden is feeling disillusioned with his life and thinks a night at the Moonlight Cafe with his best friend Penelope should be a nice escape. However, Penenlope doesn’t walk through the door. Instead, it’s Kai Andrews, Aiden’s high school nemesis that he hasn’t seen in five years. Kai had to move back home after his mother’s death and has been lonely ever since. He feels much lonelier than before and thinks a night of karaoke will life his spirits. He doesn’t expect to see Aiden who still hates him for reasons that he never understood. He’s looking for a little Moonie’s magic to fix that and make Aiden smile. If only for tonight.
