Constantly keeping her audience guessing throughout, she’s a writer gifted in the art of compelling narratives with plenty of twists and turns. Pushing the boundaries of what the romance genre can really do, she allows her stories to speak for themselves essentially when it comes to telling them. Her books come alive off of the page, enveloping the reader and holding them there for the complete duration of the novel. Establishing her own style and tone, too, each book of hers is unmistakeably hers, as she really does have her own voice and approach.

Early and Personal Life

Born in Southampton in England, the future author Anna-Lou Weatherly was raised in London with a passion for reading and writing. Nurturing this interest of her over time, she would hone and refine her skills as an author, discovering her own unique voice in the process. Studying further, she would continue to apply herself to her craft, building a profile for herself within the literary world.

Going on to work as the editor for several different publications, she would get to sharpen her writing skills for a mass audience. Drawing in inspiration from her surrounds, she would proceed to put much of it back into her writing and work. Currently still living in London to this very day, she continues to write regularly, with lots more set for release on the horizon.

Writing Career

Prior to writing fiction full-time, Anna-Lou Weatherly worked as an editor for prestigious publications such as Smash and J-17. Creating a big name for herself as a novelist, she would slowly come to find her own voice before writing her first complete novel. This would be titled ‘Ibiza Summer’ back in 2006, and it would give her an insight into her many writing processes and what she had to offer.

Before long, she would begin writing suspense novels and mystery thrillers, establishing a profile as a writer known for tension. Beginning her ‘Detective Dan Riley’ series with the novel ‘Black Heart’ in 2018, she would soon be on her way to being a hugely successful author. Winning awards for her work, she’s been in the industry for over ten years and counting as her career grows upwards and onwards.

The Woman Inside

Initially published through the ‘Bookouture’ publishing imprint, this would originally come out on the 13th of January in 2021. The fourth book in the ongoing ‘Detective Dan Riley; series of novels, it’s another completely self-contained mystery set in the same world as previously. A thriller novel, it can potentially be read by itself, although there are elements and arcs from previous books brought over.

Knowing only that her husband has left her for another woman, Daisey Garrett wakes up in hospital with no memory of anything else following her attack. With the help of her roommate Iris, she will get herself back on her feet, attempting to put her life together following an assault she shouldn’t have survived by all accounts. With the memories coming back and remembering her drinking, she feels like she was being watched, all whilst her husband was being unfaithful. Will she be able to get her precious memories back, can she find out what happened to her on that fateful night, and what is the truth of the woman inside?

A fairly intense story, this is one that definitely doesn’t hold back at any single point, instantly grabbing the reader from the outset. There are so many psychological aspects to the story, too, with its rich and immersive world shaping the many characters that inhabit it. The characters themselves are all very well drawn and established, too, as they essentially speak to the reader directly from the page.

Pleasure Island

Originally published in 2015, this would be an entirely stand-alone mystery novel containing plenty of intrigues. The story itself is one with many surprises, and its central idea is a very compelling one, making it a definite must-read. First published in 2015 on the 31st of July, this would also come out through the ‘Bookouture’ publishing label to much acclaim.

Heading off on the fantasy vacation of a lifetime, three couples are called to a luxury island by way of an exclusive invitation. With the host being Martin McKenzie, a billionaire and global media mogul, and the location of a remote private island hidden in the Aegean Sea, along with the details describing it as seven days of pure hedonism, it seems like an opportunity too good to miss. When they get there, though, not everything is quite as it seems, as there are dark secrets hidden under just under the surface. Just who, exactly, is watching them, why are they really there, and what is the real truth behind the one and only Pleasure Island?

There’s a secret mystery bubbling just underneath the surface once again here, but there are also some elements of romance too. It’s a very well-plotted character-driven story, and one with numerous twists and turns, all sure to keep the reader continually guessing. Receiving many good reviews upon its release, it’s easy to see why so many enjoyed this story, with its fun and entertaining premise.

I’m listening to the Dan Riley books on Audible, and really drawn into the world you have created, with well-drawn characters. Dan is the main driver of the story, but you also create the inner thoughts of the other characters too, so you can ‘live inside’ their heads, with their hopes and dreams and reasons for actions. These characters form the threads of the story, separate yet entwined by the story they all play a part in. In the audiobooks the reader subtly gives each character a voice, so you know whose head you are in. As the reader/listener you collect clues, and realise that one of the characters, and yourself, has more information than the detective and you want them to impart this to him…
Like a Coen Brothers movie, the viewer has all the info and you watch the characters make good/bad decisions based on what THEY know, and not what You know.
The authors style of writing is good, informative and enveloping you into the world. Reactions are real, and swearing is in exactly the right place.
Dans life in chronology is revealing, as the central path around which all the cases revolve in each story.
I really love these books, and so glad I have 4 more to read!
    Thank you Anna

I’m just coming to the end of the fantastic series with Detective Dan Riley and have thoroughly enjoyed each one. You’re a brilliant writer and had me hooked and Dan made me laugh in parts with his quirky quips and see how he can be stern too. Please say you’ll be writing more of these books for audio thanks for the entertainment and breath taking twists
