Annabel Chase is an American author of fiction. It is the pen name used by Keeley Bates, who has also written several novels under that name. Bates is perhaps most well known to readers for her popular series of fiction novels, Saints & Strangers.
She is the author of the Spellbound Series. The series kicked off in 2017 with the publication of the first book in this dynamic mystery series. She titled it Curse the Day. In this book, we get to meet the main character of this story, Emma Hart. The series is set in a special place called Spellbound. As you might guess from the name, paranormal things are quite common here.
Curse the Day is the first book in Annabel Chase’s Spellbound series. Here we travel all the way to the place for which the series is named. Things that would be out of the ordinary for other places are relatively common place in this town. It would seem that paranormal activity is more active here than many other places in the nation. As a result, anything magical or out of place is taken with a grain of salt– even expected.
Emma Hart is the main character in this book. She doesn’t have any connection to the paranormal world that she knows of. Pretty much the only super power that she could even think of possessing is super quick thought and abilities when on the influence of caffeine. She thinks that her dryer may be able to eat her socks one at a time as well, but that’s pretty much the extent of her involvement with magical powers.
Emma works as a public interest lawyer, as we find out at the beginning of this mystery novel. This means that she hauls a lot of cases and has to go over a lot of details and paperwork on a regular basis. She also has a significant amount of student debt that she incurred while on her way to becoming a lawyer. It seems that she has been struggling against the tide since the day that she was born, and she is experiencing one bad turn of luck after the other.
Emma hopes that her streak of bad luck will stop, but who can tell for sure? Unfortunately, it seems destined to continue. She is on her way to meet with a client all the way in the Pocono Mountains in a remote spot. Things are going normally– that is, until she meets an angel. The angel is suicidal, and somehow she ends up in a town called Spellbound as a result of the encounter.
Spellbound is a town where people who have supernatural abilities reside. Far from being their choice, it is a curse that was placed upon them that demands they stay there for centuries. Emma is at first shocked but then curious about this interesting place. She has no idea that she will soon find out that she too possesses magical powers. In fact, she happens to be a witch.
The town is not without its share of chaos and troubles. There has been some stir recently due to the murder of Spellbound’s public defender. Still, there’s plenty to do here. Emma finds out that she can study to be a witch and bring her powers out through basic introductory witch classes. When she catches the attention of a vampire in particular, Emma may just have a romance coming her way too.
The thing is, Emma still has a place in the real world and her old life. Is this somewhere that she sees herself staying forever? The town has its fair share of dangers, and it isn’t officially home yet; it’s still unfamiliar terrain. Emma is eventually faced with a choice: stay here and risk it all, or go back to the only world that she’s known. What will she choose? You’ve got to pick up Chase’s Curse the Day to find out for yourself!
Doom and Broom is the exciting second novel in the Spellbound series of fiction by author Annabel Chase, also known as real-life writer Keeley Bates. Spellbound has been an interesting place ever since Emma Hart arrived there. The only trouble is that she’s been involved in so much upon arrival that she has barely been able to have a moment alone to herself.
While Emma may have gifts that others don’t, the young witch hasn’t stopped being the same person that she was back when she worked as a lawyer. She still has a fear of heights, and when she finds out that she could potentially be riding a broomstick as a witch, it doesn’t make the prospect of learning how to ride any easier.
Her instructor is Lady Weatherby, and she insists that Emma take on mastery of the broomstick. Emma thinks that it’s going a bit far to request this, but she’s going to have to take on her fear of being up so high if she’s ever going to get anywhere with it.
However, trouble is never too far away in this unique place. Spellbound just recovered from one murder, and now they are going to have to deal with another one. A werewolf is discovered dead, and they think that the angel Daniel did it. However, Emma is determined to prove that the accusation is in error. She is able to prove to Sheriff Hugo that Daniel had nothing to do with the murder.
Now the only thing that everyone knows for certain is that there’s a killer out on the loose. It is more important than ever that Emma learns how to master the broom and ride high above in a bid to find the murderer. She’s going to have to face her fears if she’s going to have a chance at helping catch the person that did this.
Can she track the killer down, or will they strike again? Will Emma be able to ride her broomstick, or will she fall down to her doom? You’re going to have to pick up the phenomenal second story in the Spellbound series of fiction to find out for sure!
