Anne Cleeland earned a degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She also earned a law degree from Pepperdine University. She is a member of the California State Bar. She resides on an island called Balboa in California and raises four children. She writes present-day romantic suspense and historical fiction series where the setting is in the Regency period. Her first and foremost novel is entitled Tainted Angel. Cleeland is an appendage of the Historical Novel Society and Mystery Writers of America. She is the author of the New Scotland Yard mystery series books.
STYLE
Anne Cleeland writes historical fiction series happened in the Regency period. Regency is the period from 1811-1820 when the Prince of Wales was the ruler at the time of George III’s period of psychopathy. She is neither an English person nor a detective, but she writes stories involving British detectives. The detectives in the series interview suspicious characters who smoke–which in fact England banned smoking in public places. What’s more, the detectives appear very busy with their work, like they do not have day-offs. In England, there should really be rest days for detectives.
TAINTED ANGEL
The first novel Tainted Angel published in June 2013 is a Regency Adventure, as Anne Cleeland calls it. It is a historical fiction set in Regency period, during the Napoleonic Wars. Tainted Angel, Anne Cleeland’s debut novel, is a masterpiece of plot adventure and twist.
The story starts with a beautiful yet ill-famed woman named Vidia Swanson who employs as an ‘angel’ trying to bring out shady secrets from the powerful men who are or are not betrayers of the Crown. Due to her stunning beauty and flirtatious skills, she can coax men to disclose their secrets with her.
Her most recent target is a suspected thief of gold stolen from the Wellington’s troops. But it then turns out mysterious and alarming after she discovers that her spymaster thinks she is placed under suspicion, thinking she is a double spy agent working for Napoleon.
Lord Tynebourne, also known as Lucien Carstairs, who is deeply in love with Vidia, suspects that she is a double agent. Lord Tynebourne is determined to clean Vidia’s reputation, although his dead wife Marie, a French agent herself, condemns Vidia. The stolen fortune including missing gold shipments in records from the Bank of England shows that there are possible forgeries involved that includes Vidia’s name. They question how Vidia is related to Mr. Brodie, the mysterious and wealthy man. Mr. Brodie is also the landowner of her townhouse and her protector.
Tainted Angel is Anne Cleeland’s debut novel. There is actually much more to the plot than the romance itself. The first impression of the readers think that Vidia’s story focuses more on historical romance, but it is actually more on mystery and suspense. This is a great suspense book to take and read to the beach.
MURDER IN THRALL
Murder in Thrall published in August 2013 is one of the mystery series written by Anne Cleeland. Murder in Thrall is an Acton and Doyle Scotland Yard mystery book series. It is the first Scotland Yard mystery book. It depicts the dangerous notable achievements of the two Scotland Yard detectives’ journey of hunting down the London’s most notorious killer.
Chief Inspector Michael Sinclair, also known as Lord Acton, and novice detective Kathleen Doyle are the two main characters of the first mystery book. At first, they are not compatible to do joint crime investigation, because they are completely opposite. Kathleen Doyle, an Irish redhead, is somehow new to the world of crime investigation and is an antithesis of her partner Acton. Lord Acton, on the other hand, is the British lord who regarded himself as an intellectual yet puzzling person with, of course, a special way of hunting down criminals in town.
Despite Doyle’s lack of sophistication of worldliness, Acton looks upon Doyle as an exceptional detective. So he asks her to help him with his investigations. Though Doyle is naïve, her suspicions are exactly right. And this is what Acton is looking for to help him solve a shuddery connection of murder.
When there was a murder happened at a racetrack, a horse trainer killed on the spot, Acton and Doyle start questioning the witnesses and the victim’s acquaintances. However, the murderer continues with his cruel deed. This circumstance leaves the two detectives with a great deal of questions that need answers.
Their investigation has been muffled by their workfellows at the CID Headquarters, where blunders and green-eyed monsters could threaten the case. They are intruding Doyle and Acton’s case that results in a more baffling and stalling investigation.
And while they pile up the murders, Doyle and Acton soon realize and reveal a far more horrifying than they have ever imagined. Now they know too much of the information, they have found themselves in a pathway to easily be attacked by the cold-blooded killer.
Anne Cleeland writes the New Scotland Yard mystery series and the first book is the Murder in Thrall – the second book written after the Tainted Angel.

I find your website great as I’m blind and would read books out of order if
It was not for your help.
Please note Anne Cleeland has written a new book in the Doyle and Acton series Murder in Material Gain
Now what?!?! I’ve just finished the last 5 books in the Doyle & Acton series. A week of doing nothing but reading and taking care of the cats, lot’s of cereal and fruit because I couldn’t take the time to cook. How long do I have to wait for the next book? And, the next “one” won’t be enough, perhaps you could release 2 at once!? I know I’m going to have to start from the beginning – – I’ve actually got more than 500 books on my kindle to be read yet, but I am already craving more Doyle and Acton.
