Alex Lockerby is a private detective working in New York. When the city is struck by murders that all happen in a locked room, the police are stumped. They’ve got no suspects or leads, and so turn to Alex. Lockerby’s going to have to use all that he knows if he wants to catch a serial killer that apparently has the ability to move through walls themselves and leave without any traces of him having being there.

But at the moment, Alex is having trouble with his magic. It’s not working that great and he really could use it if he’s going to be tracking down a killer that even the police can’t catch. At the moment he can’t track down stolen goods, tons of them and one belonging to Andrew Barton, one of the biggest sorcerers in New York. How is he going to find some person that is practically undetectable?

Things are still managing to get even more complicated. Alex knows that he’s being stalked by a cabal. It’s not just him, it is his clients, too. To make things worse, the cabal appears to have powers that the private eye’s never even seen. The public is getting stirred up by reports of the killer with the tabloids making panic rise.

This Ghost killer appears to have the ability to kill whoever they want and get away, but is that true? Lockerby’s clients want results, as do the cops and the public. He’s doing all that he can to catch a killer and keep everyone alive too. His reputation’s on the line. Can Alex produce results? Will he catch a killer? Read this book to find out!

The Long Chain is the third novel in the Arcane Casebook series by Dan Willis. Alex Lockerby is back once more, with the private detective taking on more cases and doing his best to solve them.

New York is a large place, and things constantly disappear. Then a chemist that’s won the Nobel Prize goes missing. The chemist’s granddaughter contacts Alex in the hopes that the private eye will be able to track him down. Alex luckily has a great finding rune, one of the best in the city, perfect for locating people.

Lockerby is triumphant when he finally tracks down this man, but there’s a problem. The chemist doesn’t know who he is, has no memory of his own identity or what’s happened, and the research that he’s done appears to be missing. Something tickles Alex’s gut about this case and so he vows that he’s going to go out and figure out what’s going on.

But when a fog comes over the city, sorceress Sorsha Kincaid shows up at his place wanting his finding rune to find out where this fog came from. Can he keep her happy while trying to find out what’s going on with the chemist and this fog? Read The Long Chain to the end to find out what happens!
