Ash Lingam is an Amazon Bestselling, American author of historical fiction books. He’s authored over 70 books and short stories in the Western genre, including ten series about the US Marshals, Texas Rangers, and Bounty Hunters. Ash was born in Southern Ohio, a few miles from the Ohio River, during a time when the Westerns were popular on television and in movies. He then moved to Florida, where he lived until he was 24. As a boy, his hobbies included collecting Indian arrowheads and horse riding as he played Indians and cowboys. At 12, he began hunting to provide food for his family after he gifted him a shotgun. Thanks to his experiences riding horses and interacting with guns, he smoothly transitioned as the author of Old West books.
Ash Lingam has lived in 11 countries and worked/traveled through 46 countries. He spent 15 years working for Disney Consumer Products in Paris, France. Finally, Lingam ended up residing in The Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean with his wife from Barcelona, to who they’ve been married for over 30 years. According to an online interview, Lingam admitted that he always wanted to be an author but not in the Western genre. His first book was a fiction book based on his experiences traveling. The book took 7 years to publish, followed by seven other books, but none sold until he discovered his niche in Western fiction. Critics have dubbed him as the fastest author in the genre. His Western fiction books are fast-paced with a historical base, packed with characters with human flaws that we experience daily.
First published in 2017, Sundog Comanche is the first book in the Sundog series. We meet Ridge Creek, a young man orphaned at a young age after a smallpox plague left half the inhabitants of the small-town Ragged Ridge Creek, Texas, dead. At the age of 13 years, he was taken to work in the general store of an ex-lawman and gunfighter, where he learned the survival tricks of his future trade. The ex-marshal, Frank Morgan, taught him how to shoot, something that Ridge excelled at. He was also taught the law and about the heroes of that era.
At 16 years he left town and rode to Austin to join the Texas Rangers, and since then, the rest is history. In 1848, young Ridge was posted in Laredo, Texas, marking the beginning of his adventure battling with Iron Jacked and other outlaws, where he became popularly known as “With Dead Eyes.” The Sundog Comanche book tells the story of Ridge during his first five years as a Texan Ranger.
The Sundog Comanche is an amazing story of the old west that gives the readers a glimpse of the life of Ridge Creek. He endured a hard life right from the start, and through the challenges, he never lost the zeal to fight the bad guys after joining the Rangers. In this story, he tracks down the Comanche Indian nicknamed Iron Jacket due to his nature of wearing chest armor. Captain Ridge doesn’t hesitate to send the Iron Jacket to his maker in the sky.
In the artistic hands of Ash Lingam, Ridge grows into one of the most feared Texas Rangers of his time. The author creates a highly authentic and intensely researched story spiced with amazing flashes of humor resembling Larry McMurtry’s work in Lonesome Dove. The story features many actions and old-period photos to help the readers resonate with the time period.
Bounty Hunter Mister Tom Horn is the third novel in the Gunslinger series by Ash Lingam. We meet Texan-born Tom Horn, a famous bounty hunter during the last decades of the 19th century and the Old West. He is a man many in the old west considered a hero, and others knew him as a lethal assassin. He spent his days hunting down people for money as an army scout. He learned the art of speaking the native language and tracking down potential targets from the Apache tribes. It’s the same knowledge gained from this tribe that he used to eliminate the same people who had taught him. He traveled far west and deep into California Horn, where he met his old foes, Marshal Hoss Cole and Rancor Maleficent. Once again, Ash Lingam presents us with a vivid picture of the Old West and the people who survived, fought, and died there. Through his descriptions, we are able to get a glimpse of the hardships these men experienced and the humor with enough dose of romance and gun fights.
Texas Ranger by Ash Lingam tells the story of Rowdy Bates, a Texas Ranger who worked alongside Captain Ridge Creek during the better part of his youth until he was commissioned as a caption in Laredo and San Antonio. Bates followed all the orders he received from his seniors but never came to terms with the fact that his mentor and good friend had dissapeared from the face of the earth, leaving only rumors and gossip behind. When he could no longer take the orders, Bate’s feelings overwhelmed him, took a leave of absence, and followed the trail of his old boss’s travels. This saw Bates travel north to Kansas, Wyoming, and finally to Dakota Territories, seeking to find out the truth about what happened to his mentor, wishing against all odds that Captain Ridge was still alive and dead, then finding out where he died and buried.
Rowdy Bates then rides to Kansas to hunt down the rustlers who had stolen his horse, Sugar. While in Wichita, he encounters a young marshal named Jack Black, and the two form an alliance to track and capture Bill Whitley Gang and Brack Cornett. This sees the two lawmen travel back to Texas and finally deep into Mexican Jungle in their pursuit. Back in Laredo, Victoria Dupree patiently waits for her trial and is sure that she faces a death sentence by hanging for the killing of High Card Brownstone- an act prompted as a response to protect the man she loved. Who is the secret lover, and will her boyfriend arrive in time to save her from the imminent jaws of death?
