Ashley Weaver is an Edgar Award-nominated bestselling author from America, who is famous for writing mystery, suspense, and thriller books. She is particularly well known for writing the Amory Ames mystery series. In addition to being a popular author of mystery books, Weaver also works as the branch manager of the Allen Parish Libraries. She is stationed at Oberlin, which is the headquarters branch of the library system in Louisiana. Author Weaver says that she has been working in libraries since the age of 14 and has enjoyed her time in each of the libraries that she has worked. Weaver has also worked as a page and a clerk for some time before going on to become a prominent novelist. Prior to the start of her writing career, author Weaver obtained her MLIS from the Louisiana State University. Her job profile at the APL in Oberlin, Louisiana is that of a Technical Services Coordinator. As of today, she resides in Oakdale, Louisiana, and spends most of her time writing mystery novels and stories. Author Weaver is well known for creating the character of Amory Ames, who features in her mystery series as an amateur detective. The other important character that author Weaver has created is that of Milo Ames, who is Amory’s husband and her occasional help in solving the crime in the city. The series is set in England during the time of the 1930s.

The Amory Ames series written by Ashley Weaver consists of 4 novels and 1 novella in total, which were released between the years 2014 and 2017. The debut novel of this series is entitled ‘Murder At The Brightwell’. It was released by the Minotaur Books in the year 2014. Author Weaver has set the book’s story in Devon Coast, United Kingdom, at the time of the year 1932. The primary characters mentioned in this book include Emmeline Trent, Nelson Hamilton, Amory Ames, Sir Andrew Heath, Gil Trent, Anne Rodgers, Milo Ames, Lionel Blake, Rupert Howe, Winndelda, Detective Inspector Jones, Laurel Ellison, Veronica Carter, Edward Rodgers Larissa Hamilton, Olive Henderson, etc. At the start of the book’s story, it is shown that Amory Ames is a rich young woman, who is married to Milo Ames. She regrets getting married to him because of his notorious playboy nature. She thinks of going for a change and subsequently accepts a former fiance named Gil Trent’s request for help. Amory had idea that she is going to get embroiled in a murder case.

The investigation of this case not only test her friendship with Trent, but also upsets her relationship with Milo Ames. When Amory Ames goes to meet Gil Trent, she accompanies him to Brightwell Hotel in Devon Coast. Gil wants her to help him circumvent his sister’s marriage. Gil believes that Rupert Howe is a disreputable man having relationships with different women and so, he does not want his sister named Emmeline to get married to him. The situation makes Amory think about the floundering marriage of her own. She realizes that there is a lot at stake and she must proceed carefully, otherwise that situation might go out of hand. However, Rupert Howe gets murdered mysteriously and Gil Trent gets arrested as the prime suspect. Amory Ames knows that Gil is innocent. Therefore, she begins to investigate the case in an attempt to prove Gil Trent’s innocence and catch the killer. The matter gets much more complicated by the unexpected arrival of Milo. Later, he and Amory make an uneasy alliance and start working together to clear Gil’s name. The stakes continue to grow higher and it becomes extremely important for Amory Ames to decide what is important to her and hunt down the killer before becoming a victim herself. On the whole, the story appears to be a delicious mystery where a polite society gets involved in murder and romance blossoms in the most unexpected places.

The next installment of the series is called ‘Death Wears A Mask’. It was also released by the Minotaur publication in 2015. The chief characters of this book include Yvonne Roland, Serena Barrington, Nigel Foster, Amory Ames, Felicity Echols, Milo Ames, Llyod Barrington, Alexander Warrington, James Harker, etc. Author Weaver has mentioned the plot as having taken place in London in 1932. At the beginning of the story of the book, it is depicted that Amory Ames joins her rakish husband to solve another murder case that takes place at a masked gathering in London. Following the events of the previous investigation, Amory looks forward to reconnect with her changed husband Milo. It order to make this happen, she thinks of staying for some time in their quiet flat in London. Amory looks to have a tranquil period with Milo so that they could find a solution to work out their dysfunctional marriage. But, things begin to go in a different direction when Amory gets involved in another investigation. This time she is asked by Serena Barrington to help her find her missing jewelry that were snatched from her during a dinner party. After hearing everything about the jewelry disappearance and the sequence of events from Serena Barrington, Amory Ames tells her that she will have to work out a plan to trap the culprit and catch him red-handed. For this purpose, she thinks of going to the lavish masked ball that was being hosted by Viscount Dunmore and asks Serena Barrington to join her. While at the party, a high profile guests murdered and because of this, Amory gets pulled into a murder investigation once again. She reluctantly joins Inspector Jones to work through the list of suspects and catch the murderer. While trying to work out the murder case, Amory feels that the notorious viscount is making advances towards. This makes her worry about Milo, whose rumors of relationship with a film star from France start making rounds. Later, Milo reaches out to Amory again and provides a helping hand to her so that she could solve the case as soon as possible and then join him on a vacation. Milo looks to give some time to his wife with the intention of mending his relationship with her. The book was appreciated by one and all quite well. It was praised for its unique content and intriguing mystery. Author Weaver has described yet another interesting adventure with this story. The readers were felt charmed with the light mystery and setting of the plot. This book looks to be more of a character driven mystery.
