Ashtyn Newbold
Author Ashtyn Newbold was first introduced to the Regency period from early on, and the writing quickly followed.
Fascinated by the chivalry, society, and scenery, she penned “Mischief and Manors” (her first novel), and received a publishing offer before she graduated high school.
When she first decided to pen a book, she was still in high school and had just learned how much she loved writing. She decided to write clean regency romance because she loved reading them. She fell in love with the regency era and all of the story possibilities it had to offer.
She grew up with a love of stories. When she found Jane Austen novels and chick flicks during high school, she learned that she was a sucker for the romantic ones. When not indulging in sweet romantic comedies and regency period novels (and cookies), she pens romance stories of her own spanning many genres.
During her spare time, she enjoys spoiling her dog, baking, sewing, singing, spending time with her family and friends, and dreaming about the day when she gets to travel to England.
“A Convenient Engagement” is the first novel in the “Brides of Brighton” series and was released in the year 2018. A mysterious coast. A false engagement. Two hesitant hearts.
Much to the dismay of Miss Amelia Buxton’s dad, she aspires to become a spinster, much like her eccentric aunt. Growing up with parents that married for every reason except love, she’s never seen a joyful marriage. When Amelia requests to take a summer trip out to the legendary waters in Brighton, her dad allows her to take this excursion, however with just one requirement: she has to come back engaged, or agree to the proposal of the guy he selects.
Brighton, which is crawling with tourists, isn’t the town that Adam Claridge formerly loved. When Eleanor, his sister, vanishes without any warning, he is desperate to bring her back home. In his search, he happens on Miss Amelia Buxton, a young tourist who proves crucial in his search for Eleanor. However Amelia’s conducting her own search (one for a husband) and Adam’s got little choice but to offer up a fair trade: he’ll play the role of Amelia’s betrothed in exchange for her aid in locating his sister.
This arrangement, while convenient at first, soon plummets into disarray. Falling in love was never part of their bargain.
This is a wonderful story filled with lovely characters, with even the town of Brighton being a character too, as the author paints a fantastic picture of this setting. Adam and Amelia have some fantastic banter back and forth, and they have some excellent tension between them. There are some sweet and fun moments throughout, with hints of mystery and a romance.
“Marrying Miss Milton” is the second novel in the “Brides of Brighton” series and was released in the year 2018. One must never underestimate the repercussions from just one simple kiss.
Brooding, dark, and tall, the Viscount of Barnet stole the heart of Jane Milton the day that she saw him astride his black horse out in the woods. With her apparently perfect little sisters all married, she may have a chance at last to win him over. She learns about his upcoming trip to Brighton, she grasps at a chance to be a companion to an elderly lady there, so that she can follow, rather accompany, Lord Barnet to the seaside town.
Mr. Philip Honeyfield has suffered a dreaded misfortune, as he’s inherited a title. Shy and ungainly, how can he possibly perform well in society’s eye? Philip, in an effort to navigate his new role, looks to get advice from an unlikely source. When he’s smitten by grandma’s new companion, Miss Jane Milton, his advisor offers up a final piece of counsel: he has to kiss her at the ball that’s coming up.
However a moonlit kiss can prove catastrophic when it’s witnessed by a cunning mom, a marriage can be inconvenient when forced, and the heart of a woman can be tough to win when it belongs to somebody else. Can an unexpected love conquer Philip’s regret and Jane’s resentment? Or is that one simple kiss going to wind up being his greatest misfortune of all?
“The Ace of Hearts” is the first novel in the “Larkhall Letters” series and was released in the year 2020. A regrettable love letter, a secret venture, and a heart that he can’t afford to lose.
Alice Rosemeyer, faced with the betrayal of her stepbrother and an unwanted marriage, accepts an invite to the Larkhall estate. She starts operating as the anonymous Ace of Hearts, determined to earn her future security without a husband, and writes love notes on behalf of men eager to secure a match at the close of the London Season. If she can possibly manage to keep her identity a secret, her reputation intact, and avoid Mr. Thomas herring, the arrogant house guest, she may just be able to call herself successful.
When Thomas Herring’s sister marries some indebted guy because of one such love letter, he’s got no choice but to marry into money himself. Invited to stay at Larkhall, he has his sights set on his host’s wealthy sister. When she seems indifferent, he stumbles on an ad: a gentleman offering aid in matters of the heart. An ace, so he’s called. However when he winds up being a she, and is a guest at the exact same house, his task is complicated further—especially since Alice proves herself to be just as captivating as she is clever.
With secrets, reputations, and more than one heart being at risk, Thomas and Alice are trapped in a game without any rules, a game that neither one had intended to play. Were they wrong to play love for a fool?
Ashtyn does a fantastic job of reeling the reader in with this one, with her excellent characters. Readers found themselves laughing out loud at some of their banter. You truly feel for these characters and enjoyed every single scene.
