Chronological Order of Ava Lee Books

The Dragon Head of Hong Kong is a prequel story to the Ava Lee series. It is currently only available in some editions of The Water Rat of Wanchai or on Amazon.ca.

Ava Lee refers to the book series that tells us the story of a young female Chinese-Canadian forensic accountant specializing in recovering huge debts that are not likely to become recovered through traditional methods. Some of the words that could be used to describe her include methodical, courageous, resourceful, determined, strong and confident. In book number one, we find Ava learning all about her Chinese upbringing, family dynamics, and the most important people to her. She partners with her uncle, who resides in Hong Kong, and they soon establish an extensive client base consisting mainly of Asian clients.

Their approach to their business is with an understanding that organized corruption is way better than corruption without any rules. The heart of Ava Lee and her uncle’s business is to deal with corruption and so they prefer conducting their business in countries that have organized corruption. Ava Lee is creative, independent, and intelligent and and she does whatever it takes to ensure the job gets done. Her motto is that people will always be found doing good things but for wrong reasons. It is therefore her job to always look for a wrong reason in order to point her potential clients in the “right” direction.

Even though Ava Lee is petit, you shouldn’t underestimate her because she has physical capabilities that defy her small frame. For starters, she is a martial arts expert, and she uses her fighting skills to get out of the dangerous situations that come with the territory. She’s also used to working by herself, and you can even call it an obsession with her. This leads to interesting situations when she has to negotiate deals with powerful, unfamiliar alliances as part of her job.

“The Water Rat of Wanchai” is the first installment in this series, and the author introduces the reader to Ava Lee and her uncle who are the main characters. In this story, we find Ava traveling across different continents trying to track five million dollars that a seafood firm owes. However, in Guyana she meets a formidable foe in the shape of Captain Robbins. This is a huge man who operates like a godfather and controls the politicians, police and criminals. So Ava Lee is now forced to seek the assistance of this captain in order to recover the money that she is chasing. In the process, she needs to negotiate and ensure that the captain doesn’t take the lions share of the money.

Even though this book is interesting to read, you may get irritated by the fact that Ava Lee is always drinking Starbucks coffee, which is also always the instant brand. You also chuckle whenever she calls her underwear panties, and she uses the word panties numerous times. It’s as if the book is being sponsored by Starbucks and she is a forensic accountant who also deals with panties. Anyway, other than these annoying quirks, the book is entertaining and you get immersed in the events that take place in different continents.

The second book in thisseries is called “The Disciple of Las Vegas” and here we find the leading character deep in the murky world of online gambling. The richest person in Philippines has just hired Ava to help in the recovery of $50 million obtained from a land swindle in Canada. The billionaire’s reputation is about to get tarnished and so Ava has to follow the money trail, starting in Vancouver and then leading her to several countries. In the course of her investigation, she uncovers an illicit online gambling gang, which leads to a confrontation with world poker champions David Douglas aka “The Disciple” and Jeremy Ashton his partner.

In the meantime, Jack Leung is an old mark of Ava and her uncle who has suddenly come into some money and is now seeking revenge. He is now targeting Ava as a means of exacting his revenge. In the second book,Ava continues to display her skills as a forensic accountant able to find and recover stolen money. The reader also gets to learn more about her character and we get glimpses of her personal life. However, the author continues trying to promote brands such as t-shirts and button-down shirts.

In the second book, Ava Lee finds herself on a globetrotting mission that takes her from Canada to Las Vegas, Manila, San Francisco and London. The Filipino billionaire has a brother who appears to have gambled away more than $50 million. However, there’s a catch because it seems that he was conned while gambling in an online casino. To complicate matters, a hit has been put out on the forensic accountant who is trying to recover the money. After Ava discovers what is going on, she calls in the reinforcements for some strong arm persuasions.

The plot then becomes dark and violent and just when it appears that it’s all over, Ava finds herself in the middle of global politics after she lands in London. It appears that nothing comes easy for Ava but at the end of the day, she always finds a way to accomplish her mission. Her opponents soon discover to their dismay that she’s the toughest accountant that they will ever meet and she always gets them to pay the money that they owe, never mind that the sums involved are mind boggling.

If you love the first and the second books in thisseries, you’ll be happy to note that there are more books featuring the tough forensic accountant from Canada. Ava Lee is not afraid to get ruthless and she won’t hesitate to unleash a henchman on anyone who refuses to play ball. The books in this series are fast paced and full of action, drama and intrigue. The good thing about this series is that the action takes place in different countries and so you get thoroughly entertained reading them. If you are a fan of the intrigues of the Chinese Triad and other organized crime, then this book series should be in your bookshelf. The success of the this book series has seen television and movie producers in the process of negotiating to adapt the book.

    Hi guys,
sorry, but that is exactly what I did NOT want to know.
What I would like to know is in which order of books the time line of the content, of Ava’s story, evolves.
    Cheers,
    Uli

The note about the chronological should cover it I believe. The Dragon Head of Hong Kong first then it follows publication order.
