B.V. Lawson is a reputed American novelist of thriller, mystery, suspense, and fiction novels. She is known to have written multiple successful novel series, the most popular one of which is the Scott Drayco series. Other novel series penned by her include the Melungeon Witch series and the Adam Dutton & Beverly Laborde series. Lawson has also written a couple of short story collections and one novella in his career. In addition to being a successful author, she is also a journalist and poet. Her work has won him a few prestigious awards. Lawson’s works have featured in dozens of regional and national publications, anthologies, and literary journals. They have been translated into multiple foreign languages, including Portuguese, Italian, and Spanish, and have been downloaded into over 40 countries.

Lawson has the reputation of being a four-time finalist for the Derrigner Award. She has won this prestigious award in 2012 for one of her short stories. Her Scott Drayco novel series has received honorable mentions from some prominent writing organizations such as the Maryland Writers Association and American Independent Writers. It has been named the Next Generation’s Best Mystery at Indie Book Awards and been a finalist for the Silver Falchion, Daphne, and Shamus Awards. Also, the book has been selected as a Featured Self-pick by Library Journal. As of today, Lawson resides in Virginia. She is happily married and likes to take up adventurous trips with her loving husband.

During her spare time, Lawson loves to fly her Cessna aircraft with her hubby over the Chesapeake Bay. She is a proud member of various writing organizations like the MWA, Sisters in Crime, Private Eye Writers of America, SMFC, ITW, and the IACW. Lawson’s mother was a librarian, which meant that she was always surrounded by books at her home. From a young age, she had become a book junkie. Her mother used to supply her with all the books that she liked to read. Lawson claims that she began writing to satisfy her reading habit from another angle. And in a very short time after beginning the new habit, she got hooked on it. Lawson entered into a poetry writing competition when she was 10 years old and won it. She followed it up with participating in and winning a few essay contests as well.

All these experiences helped her realize that she could have a great future in writing. However, life played its course and it took her a bit longer than she had hoped to achieve that dream. Lawson loves reading stories about private eyes. But, she is not a fan of creating first-person stories. So, she came up with a private investigator procedural through her protagonist named Scott Drayco. Lawson described him as an ex-FBI agent, who begins to practice as a freelancing consultant with law enforcement agencies. The settings in the Scott Drayco books are inspired by the DC area, but she has tried to show differences in terms of scenery and culture. Lawson had come up with the idea of her first novel around ten years ago. After shipping it around to some agents in New York, she finally succeeded in getting Michael Garrett to edit it.

Over a period of ten years, the book finally took its current form. In spite of being a female writer, she prefers to write about male characters as protagonists. One reason that she could think of for this is that she went through lots of male-centric stories during her childhood. Also, Lawson thinks that it was because of being surrounded by intelligent and sympathetic men as role models. A typical day in Lawson’s life includes getting up early, exercising, having a healthy breakfast, and then writing for at least 8 hours straight. Sometimes, she has to experience interruptions due to various reasons that break her flow, but she understands that every day cannot be the same. Lawson follows writers like John Creasey, who write between 6 and 7 thousand words daily, and wishes to achieve that target as well. Her advice to the newbie authors is to love their work and be persistent in whatever they do. Lawson is happy to know that her books have achieved a great fan-following across the globe and wants to keep writing successful books year after year.

A popular series written by author B.V. Lawson is known as the Adam Dutton & Beverly Laborde Mystery series. It is comprised of a total of three books released between 2019 and 2020. Every novel of this series features the chief protagonists in the roles of Beverly Laborde and Adam Dutton. Adam is depicted as a detective from Vermont, while Beverly is shown as a con woman. The debut book of this mystery series is entitled ‘Steal Away’. It was published by the Crimetime Press in 2020. The book opens by introducing Beverly Laborde as a con artist. She takes this route to take revenge from a man, who caused the shutting down of her antique business owned by her grandmother.

When Adam Dutton comes across the beautiful Beverly, he wonders whether he should take her out for a date or arrest her. Adam and Beverly face problems from the formidable and wealthy Reginald Forsythe. His high connections in Vermont make things difficult for both of them. When nothing seems to be going their way, they decide to take the help of a mysterious antique dealer named Mr. X. With his help, Beverly and Adam go on to prove Reginald’s involvement in a murder and various other criminal activities carried out by him. The second volume of this series is called ‘Hide Away’. It was also released in 2019 by the Crimetime Press. The primary characters of this novel include Beverly Laborde, Harlan Wilford, Titus Lemann, Adam Dutton, and a few others. Initially, it is mentioned that Adam Dutton faces the hardest task of his life when he goes to arrest his godfather and friend, Harlan Wilford.

Harlan accused of murdering someone and faces trial. Beverly Laborde comes back to the Ironwood Junction as a reformed woman. She looks forward to living a normal life. Neither Beverly nor Adam believes that Harlan is the murderer. They set out to find the real culprit, one who framed Harlan. After investigating, Beverly and Adam come up with a list of suspects, including a former customer of the antique business run by Harlan. Adam and Beverly dodge the professional and personal land mines and the piling pressure from Mayor Lemann to get to the bottom of the mystery. While trying to track down the culprit, the two wonder if they will be able to progress in their relationship.
