About Beth Pattillo
As a writer, Beth Pattillo is an American author who draws heavily from the rich tradition of historical fiction and romance. Often citing the likes of Jane Austen as a major influence, she brings her own personality to the genre, which is both unique and interesting in equal measure. This has proven to be massively successful all across the world, as she’s fast becoming a household name in her own right.
Also going under the name of Bethany Brooks as an occasional pen-name too, she definitely has a lot to write about. Speaking directly through her work and stories, she really makes the genre her own, whilst remaining truly accessible for a wide ranging audience. Coming a long way in a relatively short amount of time, she continues to build upon her profile as an author with much to say.
Early and Personal Life:
Born and raised in Texas, Beth Pattillo would grow up with a strong affinity for literature in all its forms, both reading and writing. Enjoying knitting from an early age too, she’d often express herself creatively, leading to her career as an adult writing. Developing her voice throughout the years, she’d become a highly adept author with much to say, working on her style and tone.
Attending Trinity University in San Antonio, she’d graduate before moving on from Texas to go and live in Nashville. Studying at Vanderbilt University, she’d gain a Master of Divinity degree, which would also come to help pave the way for her future career. Focusing on journalism throughout her high-school years, her love of writing was always something that had remained with her.
During her time in Nashville she would also meet her husband to be, and the both of them would move to work in Jackson. Moving around, their work would also take them to Tennessee, Kansas City, and Missouri, which was when their son was born. It was during her time in Kansas City that she’d also begin her first novel, before the both of them would finally move back to Nashville.
Currently writing still to this day, she continues to show a keen interest in history, especially in the work of Jane Austen. This is a topic that has greatly informed her work, as she continually travels around looking for new and exciting ideas. With more to come in the near future, she wont be finishing any time soon either, as her career continues to grow.
Writing Career:
The first book that Beth Pattillo would write was the novel ‘Princess Charming’ back in 2003, which would be a stand-alone title. Introducing her as a writer for the very first time, it would establish her style and her tone as an author, giving readers and idea of what to expect. Finding her footing, it would pave the way, as she’d later to turn to writing long-running series, focusing on more on what she wanted to focus on.
Much of the work of Pattillo would have inspirational underpinnings too, as she’d always infuse a positive outlook into her stories. Wanting her readers to take something away from it too, she’d always manage to infuse her stories with a solid message. This would lie at the heart of each of her stories, although she’d always remember to keep them entertaining, making sure they’re easy to relate to as well.
Creating a number of series, Pattillo would begin the ‘Reverend Betsy Blessing’ collection back in 2005 with the novel ‘Heavens to Betsy’. She’d follow this up the following year with ‘Earth to Betsy’ in 2006, which continue in much the same vein as before. In 2008 she would also bring out ‘The Sweetgum Knit Lit Society’, which would start the ‘Sweetgum’ series, whilst delving into her love of knitting.
Writing historical romances, she’d have an eye for accuracy, paying close attention to detail at every turn, with her well researched stories. This would be something that would become especially prevalent in 2009 with her Jane Austen series, which would focus on the author and her work. Still writing to this day, there’s more to come from Pattillo on the horizon, with her career going from strength-to-strength.
Princess Charming
This would be an early title for Pattillo, so would be somewhat different from some of her later titles and work. Showing her development as an author though, it’s definitely a must for fans of her writing, showing where she’s come from as a writer and artist. Originally released in 2003 through BelleBooks, it would set-up much of Beth Pattillo’s writing career to follow, with its historical romance.
The daughter of a duke, Lady Lucy Charming arrives into the life of the hapless in love Nicholas St. Germain. Haunted by the ghosts of his own past, he’s never felt he could truly be free to love, whilst meanwhile Lady Lucy lives in the shadow of her stepmother. Attempting her escape, she soon finds herself in the midst of Nicholas, as he himself attempts one final daring rescue. What must they overcome to be together? Can they move on from their past? Will love
conquer all for Princess Charming?
The Dashwood Sisters Tell All
As a later title, this clearly shows how far Beth Pattillo has come as an author, with its clear and confident style and pacing. First published in 2011 through the GuidepostsBooks publishing label on the 25th of March, it would be the third title in the ‘Adventures with Jane Austen and her Legacy’. As a series it would pay homage to the life and work of Jane Austen, with the late author shaping the lives of each of the characters.
Here Mimi and Ellen Dodge are sisters who have never really been close to one another, that is until the mother’s dying wish leads them to a walking tour of Hampshire, England. Following in the footsteps of the author Jane Austen, they’re also both bequeathed the diary of Cassandra, Jane’s sister. Bringing the author to life once more, the two of them are drawn into the past, as they learn more about history and each other. Where will their journey take them both? Can the come together and renew their bonds? What will happen when the Dashwood sisters tell all?
