J.R. Ward is an American author of fiction. Born in 1969, she resides with her family in the South. She is a number one bestselling author on the New York Times for various novels. Her novels have sold over 15 million copies around the world and have been published in many countries.

Ward is the pen name used by author Jessica Bird. She was born in Massachusetts to parents W. Gillette and Maxine Bird. Her full name is Jessica Rowley Pell Bird. She first started writing when very young as a child, writing short stories and putting her thoughts down in journals and diaries.

Before she went to college, she wrote her first book the summer before semester started. It was a romance novel. She wrote a lot after that for herself. She attended Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. There she focused on history and art history, her two majors. She specialized on the medieval period.

She also attended Albany Law School, where she graduated with her degree in law. Bird worked in health care administration for some time, including as Chief of Staff in Boston, Massachusetts at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. She got married to her husband, John Neville Blakemore the third, in 2001.

Her husband was very supportive and encouraged Ward to find an agent that could help her to market Bird’s manuscripts. She did end up finding an agent and had her first novel officially published in 2002. It was titled Leaping Hearts and is a contemporary romance novel.

Today, Bird enjoys writing and spending time with her golden retriever and her husband. Her ideal day is doing nothing but hanging out with her dog, the computer, and a pot of coffee. She says that she enjoys writing novels that have characters from previous books and enjoys writing alpha male heroes and smart and strong heroines.

J.R. Ward has written over twenty novels, many of which have done quite well. She is the creator of several popular series, including the Black Dagger Legacy series. She is also the author of such series such as Bourbon Kings, Firefighters, Wedding from Hell, the Fallen Angels series, and the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The Bourbon Kings has been optioned to become a television movie.

She has been awarded the RITA Award from the Romance Writers of America in 2007 for her novel From the First. She has been nominated for the Reviewer’s Choice Award from Romantic Times six times. She has once so far for Lover Awakened. She made the 2014 New York Times Bestsellers List at number two as well.

The Black Dagger Legacy series kicked off in 2015 with the publication of the novel Blood Kiss. The sequel to this book came out the next year, titled Blood Vow. The third book in this series by J.R. Ward makes it a trilogy. It is titled Blood Fury. It is a spin-off series from Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series, which is all about vampires.
