Bonnie Hearn Hill is an American author. When not writing, she leads frequent workshops for writers. She also speaks at conferences about writing. She serves as a mentor and a frequent theme in her writing is that of empowerment.
In addition to being a published author, Bonnie has been a teacher and a public speaker. She has often let her experiences add to and influence her writing. For instance, her novel Intern came out in 2003 and was inspired by her interest in the attraction between younger women and older men. The book was a hit. Likewise, her thriller novel Killer Body was influenced by culture and the obsession with having an ideal body.
Hill was born in California in Yuba City. She wasn’t always an author and worked on a newspaper as an editor for a period of twenty-two years. She also penned a non fiction book on Muscle Beach along with fellow author Harold Zinkin.
She has been interested in the weight loss and fitness industry for a long time, as well as questioning the concept that you can never be too thin or rich (maybe you can be, as her characters in her novel Killer Body find out).
Bonnie Hill is the creator and author of the Geri LaRue series. This fun fictional series kicked off in 2004 with the release of the debut novel, titled If It Bleeds. The exciting sequel came out two years later and is titled Cutline. Hill made the series a trilogy with the release of Off the Record in 2006.
If It Bleeds is the debut novel in the LaRue series. When it comes to journalism, the saying goes that if the subject or the story bleeds, then invariably ‘it leads’. This means that any violent story or gruesome event should always be placed on the front page. Otherwise it will not get the attention of the public and that means less papers sold.
The name of the game is business, but it’s also doing the news. Sure, they run the violent stories front and center– it gets papers off of the selling rack. However, when Corina Vasquez finally gets her own bleeding story, does it come with a little too much baggage along with it?
She has been just recently promoted from assistant to the lead investigative reporter at the Valley Voice. Corina wants nothing more than to prove that she deserves this job and isn’t better suited at taking people’s lunch orders and bringing coffee. However, Corina’s lead might just end up putting her in serious danger as it ends up getting a killer’s attention.
The public is shocked when the first ever female elected mayor of the city is found dead. Her body is found in a vineyard and Corina finally has the chance to break the story since her boss is elsewhere and generally missing in action. When another killing happens that may have connections to the first case, Corina is on the job.
She slowly begins to dig up details about each case. However, even though she’s trying to figure out what happened, she’s starting to wonder if these killings go a lot deeper. Could she only be on the very surface of what could be a huge involved conspiracy?
Corina is doing all that she can to crack the case. To do so, she will need the help of Wes Shaw– the current acting mayor of the city now that the other one is dead. He is in a position to help her, but then again, he also is the person that broke Corina’s heart. Now he wants to come back into her life again, but is this reporter ready for love?
Meanwhile, her boss doesn’t want her on this story anymore. However, Corina is committed to finding out the details of this case and reporting them to the public– they have a right to know! As she does her job, Corina accrues more and more attention. But will she realize that she has a target on her back before it’s too late? You will have to read the exciting thriller novel If It Bleeds from Bonnie Hill to find out!
Cutline is the sequel in the Geri LaRue series by acclaimed author Bonnie Hill. If you loved the first novel in this thriller series, then you will most likely be excited to take on this second installment!
Murder and mystery usually go hand in hand when no one steps up and confesses to the crime. Another killer is on the loose in San Francisco when the body of a priest is found in a local park. Geri is a reporter and when she realizes that her friend Leta Blackburn is missing she doesn’t know what to do at first.
It takes her all of a couple of seconds to figure this out. Leta is a competent journalist whose work has won her several awards for her work and reporting. If she were around, she would no doubt be on the strange case of the dead priest and doing her best to put the pieces together about how and why he died– and who did it.
There is a forensic report, however, and it says that the victim was engaged in sexual activity at the time of his passing. Geri is confused by the entire thing. However, when a malicious coworker accuses her of knowing way more about the murder than she would ever admit, she has no choice but to turn to a therapist to help her.
Geri has her notes and reasons that lead her to believe that the killer is actually a woman. Malcolm is her therapist and agrees to help her try and track down the murderer in his own way. He has no way of knowing that this anonymous killer may be watching them.
Malcolm is the only one that can truly understand what’s going on in the killer’s mind. He thinks that he can help Geri with her quest to find a criminal killer– but will they both find themselves under the gun instead? Read this book to find out!
