A Knife in the Fog is the debut novel in the Harkness and Doyle fictional series by Bradley Harper. If you are a big fan of anything Sherlock Holmes, inventive new takes on classic real life people and characters, or just a great mystery series, then check out this fiction series for yourself!

In this debut story, readers get to meet the main character of Arthur Conan Doyle for the first time. Arthur works as a physician primarily, He has decided to take a break when it comes to practicing, however. Most doctors probably wouldn’t be interested in doing that, especially for the reason– deciding that the wants to help the London police and try to hunt down a serial killer.

The killer is none other than the famed serial killer known as Jack the Ripper. The year is 1888, the month is September. Doyle is 29 years old and he works practicing medicine during the day but writing during the night. His first story to come out in the Sherlock Holmes series is titled “A Study In Scarlet”. The story is published and even though it is fairly popular among readers and the critics too, he only comes away with 25 pounds for his trouble.

The experience is not a pleasant one. As a result, the physician vows to himself that he will never again try to compose another crime fiction story. When a messenger shows up at his door, he is entirely surprised. Doyle is delivered with a summons from the previous Prime Minister. William Gladstone has requested that the physician and writer drop everything and immediately visit him in London.

Doyle decides to oblige Gladstone and see what he wants by going to London. He arrives there and is offered an interesting chance to do something different. One month’s salary is what he is being offered in exchange for helping the forces of the Metropolitan Police department. He would be an official consultant on the all-important hunt to track down a serial killer.

Arthur agrees to the terms, with one stipulation that requests that his surgery professor be allowed to collaborate with him on the case. It is a fitting request as the professor was his original inspiration for the character of Sherlock Holmes. Joseph Bell is the perfect candidate to help him when it comes to this investigation.

He floats the proposal to Bell and the professor quickly agrees to help. The two of them are quickly joined by a woman as well named Margaret Harkness. She is a writer that is going to serve as their companion and guide and knows her way around a Derringer. The team follows up on leads that will take them through courtyards and dank alleys.

Then they stumble across a dead body. It appears to be the fifth victim of the killer, and they have been killed in a savage fashion. The team is concerned, but they knew what they signed up for. But it all starts to become way too clear that they are not just the hunters– they are being hunted as well.

Can they track down this killer once and for all? Or will the team be toast when a figure wielding a knife emerges out of nowhere? Pick up the exciting first book in the Doyle series to find out!
