Since then Ceda as promised herself to get revenge for her mother.
Now a decade is over since the death of Ceda’s mother, and she is still determined to bring down the twelve kings guided by a book she inherited from her mother. The book is written in puzzles and understanding them is not easy for her, and there are several questions on her inheritance that she must solve before beginning the vengeance mission. Ceda is a fascinating character with the capability, and you will find it interesting to follow her activities in the streets of Sharakhai in search of information about her past. The story introduces other characters like Emre, Ceda’s friend since childhood and more of a brother to her. As Ceda’s mission begins, Emre involves himself in the underground resistance making them part ways. Though the twelve kings may seem ruthless and evil, their rebels calling themselves The Moonless Host use more bloody and destructive methods.

The relationship between Ceda and Emre change when they both go on the opposite directions while fighting towards the same mission but led by different forces. Beaulieu uses his world-building skills in the story to make it more thrilling. The sight of the city is brought to light by the vivid descriptions of the area. The story building makes the pacing slow in the first half of the book as there are many things to take in.
