Brandon Barr was an American published author and a best selling writer of fiction. He is known to many for his series Song of the Worlds.

Barr grew up in southern California. He first got into writing stories at an early age. He was twelve years old at the time and that happened to be the same year that he read Jurassic Park for the first time. When he was in college for his senior year, he received an assignment in creative writing that would end up restarting his initial passion for writing.

Barr did not turn to writing novels at first. This is partly due to the fact that he thought that short stories were more his style. In addition, Ray Bradbury was one of his largest inspirations and is known for his short stories. At the time, Barr said that he was reading short story anthologies from Nebula and Hugo. Reading these only furthered his interest in the genres of fantasy and science fiction. Later he would combine fantasy and science fiction with stories that had fantastic aspects and relatable characters.

This would be further exemplified in his Song of Worlds series. This dramatic series seamlessly blended science fiction and fantasy, being set in a large fantasy universe full of monsters and more. He also composed the series Path of Heroes with fellow author Michael Anderle. The series is pulp fantasy and blends swords and sorcerers with a post-apocalyptic feeling. The first book, Rogue Mage, became a number one Amazon best seller.

The author was married to his wife, Amanda. Together they had three sons.

Barr started off his career early writing short stories. When he had written over a dozen of them, he decided that it was time to try his hand at writing novels. He did so with Mike Lynch as an early co-author. They wrote some books together, which were published traditionally. Barr had also had some of his short stories published in magazines and in online electronic magazines.

Brandon grew a lot as a writer and finally started to feel like he had found his voice. He wanted to write stories and fiction that was full of action and intense but could also transcend boundaries, getting to a common human core and contending with human questions, hungers, and pains. He loved writing fantasy and science fiction as well as talking to readers, interacting with them and responding to their emails. He noted that he was humble to be where he was in life, thanks to battling leukemia from 2015 to 2016.

Other interests of the author included hiking, fishing, gardening, playing baseball and softball, playing board games and going backpacking in beautiful locations such as the Sierra Mountains. Brandon enjoyed doing these activities and hobbies with his family too, with his wife and children. They would all go to church together in southern California as well. Brandon was doing what he loved, writing soul-infused stories of fantasy and science fiction.

His wife would announce online that her husband had passed away. She recounts that Brandon was surrounded by family and friends. Brandon Barr passed away on November 21, 2018. She thanked his readers for their support of his writing and positive feedback about his books and Brandon himself, which kept him encouraged to keep on writing.
