Breakers (Series by Edward W. Robertson)
Author Edward W. Robertson writes the “Breakers” series of post-apocalyptic novels. The series began publication in the year 2012, when “Breakers” was released.

In this series, humanity faces not just one apocalypse, but actually two: first the deadly pandemic, and then a war against those that made the virus.

“Breakers” is the first novel in the “Breakers” series and was released in the year 2012. In Los Angeles, Mia and Raymond James are going to lose their house soon. In New York, Walt Lawson is going to lose his girlfriend, Vanessa. But in just days, none of it is going to matter. A plague makes its way across the globe, reducing Los Angeles to a chaotic wilderness of fires and violence, and New York to just an open grave. Civilization comes to an abrupt stop.

Right when the survivors start adapting to the aftermath, Walt discovers the virus which ended humanity was not man made. It was inflicted from the outside. The colonists that sent it are ready to finish the job, and Earth’s survivors might be too few and much too weak to resist.

These are well written with an original cast of characters and a fast paced plot. Edward plays around well with some different storylines and characters in the series.

“Meltdown” is the second novel in the “Breakers” series and was released in the year 2012. Ness Hook, in upstate Idaho, has been run out of his mother’s house by his bullying brother Shawn. In Redding, California, Tristan Carter is graduating from college, however without a job and no prospects, she’s going to need to move back in with her parents. Then the world ends. First with a virus, and then with the alien invasion.

Shawn and Ness go up into the mountains to fight the guerrilla against the attackers. In California, Alden and Tristen are taken captive. Tristan, while separated from her brother, crosses the ruins of America to locate him. She’s going to stop at nothing to get him back, however her fellow survivors prove much more dangerous than those monsters that broke the world to start with.

“Knifepoint” is the third novel in the “Breakers” series and was released in the year 2013. Raina was only a girl when the plague came. She survived, but her parents did not. Neither did the rest of the world. While civilization fell, she went to the ruins of Los Angeles, eating whatever she could possibly catch.

After spending two years all alone, she is found and adopted by a fisherman and his wife. Their makeshift family just lives a quiet little life, until a guy named Karslaw sails in from Catalina Island with their army of conquerors. Driven by visions of empire, he executes Raina’s new dad as a traitor and imprisons her mom.

However Karslaw’s people are not the only ones that are vying for control of this ruined land. While violence wracks this city, she joins a rebellion against Karslaw’s rule. She’s going to stop at nothing in order to free her mom, and to get her revenge.

“Reapers” is the fourth novel in the “Breakers” series and was released in the year 2013. Federal agent Ellie Colson fled into the Adirondacks with Dee, a daughter she barely knew, once the plague came. They started a new life as subsistence farmers, isolated from the world’s fall. During the six years that followed, a tiny community has arisen from the ashes. Dee’s grown up now. She is engaged to a young man from across the lake, named Quinn. And she is being hunted.

Strangers spy on the farms during the night, and Dee is harassed by a spurned suitor. A dog of Quinn’s winds up dead. Ellie, while drawing on her old skills, launches an investigation of these locals. Quinn’s dad has made some poor choices. A few enemies too. The strangers are not after Dee. But Quinn.

Quinn’s dad fears the worst, when Quinn disappears. However Ellie’s got a lead. She and Dee track these kidnappers into the post apocalyptic wilderness of New York, and into some darker lands than Ellie could possibly ever imagine.

“Cut Off” is the fifth novel in the “Breakers” series and was released in the year 2014. It has been six years now since the plague and Tristan spent five of them with her brother Alden in Maui. Life seems simple. Peaceful and simple. All of these illusions get torn away when she learns of an alien installation hidden within the mountains.

As a response, she gets a boat ready and begins working on a new home deep within the forest. However the locals do not appreciate her raiding their town to get supplies. Pretty quick, their resentment turns into an open war. And it gets the aliens’s attention, that bomb this area relentlessly. Alden and Tristan, with their lives and home in ruins, flee deep into the jungle of Hana. And find a secret paradise.

But it is not meant to last. Off of the coast of China, Ness and Sebastian, his alien ally, track an alien conspiracy. Its tendrils are going to lead them right to Maui, and pull humanity right to the brink of extinction.

“Captives” is the sixth novel in the “Breakers” series and was released in the year 2014. Walt Lawson saved the world before. These days, he has lived in peaceful anonymity with Carrie, his girlfriend. But this morning, she has been abducted.

Walt’s just got the one lead: the van which took her. Its trail points him up the coast toward San Jose, where survivors have banded up against the gangs that’ve overrun the north. With the help of a local guide, Walt homes in on the kidnappers, that are just days away from shipping Carrie far, far away.

However Walt’s past will crash down upon his rescue plans. For six years, now Thom James has been on the hunt, and blaming Walt for his brother Raymond’s death. Now that Walt has come up for air, Thom’s finally got a lead, and he isn’t going to stop until he has put Walt six feet underground.
