A popular novel series written by Bryan Davis is known by the name Dragons In Our Midst. This series is comprised of 4 books in total, which were released between the years 2004 and 2005. The debut novel of the series is entitled ‘Raising the Dragons’. It was released by the Scrub Jay Journeys publication in the year 2004. Author Bryan has described the central characters in this book as William Bannister, Sir Devin, Walter Foley, and Bonnie Silver. At the start of the book’s story, it is shown that William Bannister called as Billy by friends and the kids at his school have named him ‘Dragon Breath’. And the reason for this unique name is that he seems to have bad breath. Later, people begin to notice that Billy’s breath is not like a typical morning bad breath, rather he breath seems hot like fire and tends to frighten others from getting near him. And when his dragon breath sets the sprinkler system in his school’s restroom on fire, trouble comes calling for Billy. It is learned that Billy’s parents have known that he has something unusual inside him and when such incidences begin to increase, they realize that they can no longer keep his secret. Finally, Billy becomes aware of the secret and learns that his dad was a dragon once. Subsequently, he feels let down, betrayed, lost, and alien. After a while, a dragon slayer traps Billy on a West Virginia mountaintop and this makes him fight for his survival. He begins to use his power which he has cursed for so long. Slowly, he begins to learn to trust and put his power to good use. Bonnie Silver is shown as an orphan, who looks for a home and someone to care for her and love her. She considers herself a freak due to a body feature, which looks more like a deformity. However, her unusual feature turns out to be a life saving attribute for her when she discovers that the answers to all her questions lie in her faith in the creator and her love for others.

The next book of the series is called ‘The Candlestone’. It was also released in 2004 by Scrub Jay publication. Bryan has again depicted the main characters as Walter Foley, Bonnie Silver, Sir Devin, and William Bannister, along with other supporting characters like Ashley Stalworth and Hartanna. At the beginning of the story of the book, it is depicted that Billy gets separated from his loved ones and is led into a mortal combat with another deadly dragon slayer. Whatever dragon traits he uses against this powerful enemy seem useless. Therefore, Billy feels the need to rely on some new weapons. He learns about a shield and a sword as weapons to be used against the dragon slayer, but the problem is that he is unable to seem them. On the other hand, Bonnie Silver gets lured by a scientist in his science lab, who informs her that her mother is alive. As the scientist learns the secret of dragon blood being useful for having a long life, he asks Bonnie to help him in his experiment. In doing so, the scientist needs to send Bonnie to candlestone to get her mother back. As soon as Bonnie sets foot in candlestone, she learns many secrets about her childhood and about the candlestone prison. Bonnie hopes to take help from Billy, but first he needs to overcome the slayer.
