In the Thief Taker books, author Quinn talks about thief takers, who were active in London during the 1660s. They used to solve cases that were not regarded as important enough to be taken up by the dignified watchmen of London. Mostly, poorer men used to approach the thief takers, who had faced a theft or crime. They would ask for justice for the injustice done to them. A thief taker would try to track down the culprits and make them pay for causing injustice to poor innocent people. Usually, the cases taken up by thief takers included getting back the properties of their clients or catching thieves and turning them to higher authorities. And, as the punishments given to criminals were very barbaric, including chopping off of hands, cutting noses, or other body parts, etc., thief takers use to let go the criminals with a warning or much dangerous consequences if they dare to indulge in criminal activities again. One such thief taker that Quinn has described in her novels is Charlie Tuesday. He is depicted as the chief protagonist in all her books. Charlie Tuesday resides in London and tries to make the city a better place for living by fighting smaller crimes and solving mysterious cases. Charlie Tuesday is seen being assisted in his efforts by another important character named Anna-Marie. In each book, these characters are depicted taking a stand against brutal murderers and deadly criminals, and attempting to prevent the spreading of a crime wave in London.
