C. Wayne Winkle is a bestselling author of Western fiction from Arkansas. People that have met him describe the author as a quiet man who looks like he would be a great fit for his Western novels.
He looks like he would be quite at home standing with ink-stained fingers over a printing pressing, selecting the font for the weekly newspaper.
Sometimes he does look like the perfect owner of a general store waiting for his first customers after sweeping the front of his store.
The period in which Winkle writes has been associated with authors such as Zane Gray and Louie L’Amour and it is not surprising that he has said that these are some of his favorite works and inspirations.
Nonetheless, C. Wayne’s characters always seem to have more depth to them perhaps because his heroes have more experience given that they are a little older.
Winkle is a retired psychologist that grew up in Pennsylvania and spent much of his childhood watching some of our favorite Western heroes on television.
He still remembers how he used to look forward to Saturday mornings as he would usually sit down to watch the likes of Lone Ranger, Roy Rogers, Lash LaRue, and Gene Autry for the whole day.
As he got older, he got into reading and still reads the likes of Louis L’Amour, even as he also got into thrillers and mysteries.
He ultimately penned “Friends Forever” his debut novel in 2014 and has since become one of the most prolific authors. Winkle now has more than three dozen novels to his name across more than half a dozen series and several single-standing titles.
He has said that he is so prolific since he just cannot not write. Writing has been something that he has been doing ever since he published his first poem in the church bulletin when he was a junior high school student.
In addition to his novels, he has also written all manner of grant proposals, blog posts, fundraising letters, web copy, and sales letters during his days as a psychologist.
Given C. Wayne Winkle’s love for Western fiction, it is no surprise that he still makes his home in Arkansas in the south of the United States.
The author spent much of his childhood in Malvern but since 1991, he has lived with his wife in Fort Smith very near to Indian Territory.
He has now been married to his wife for more than four decades and together they have two daughters and six grandkids.
He has often said that his Christian faith is a mainstay of his life and sometimes informs his fiction works.
C. Wayne Winkle’s novel “The Fixer” introduces Frank Bannon the lead in the series.
He never intended to go back to being a fixer as he believed that was in the past. However, a rich man named Wiley Kingston has shot his old dog, stolen his horse, and tried to kill leaving him with no choice.
He proceeded to kill Wiley only for Ben his father to hire hitmen to come after him. They had ultimately cornered him in the mountains but they did not know what kind of man they were dealing with.
Bannon is a man who goes about his business with reckless abandon. He is never one to pull any punches and is determined to bring stability and peace to evil men who have to pay for unending terror.
He had been prepared to exact his revenge on Wiley for taking his dog and horse but they just would not let things rest. Now that they are coming for him he becomes determined to get back his appaloosa which had been taken by Ben’s son.
Despite the many challenges, he never loses his focus making for a sensational Western work of fiction.
Pulling no punches it is a realistic rendition of the old Western folklore adventures that we all loved so much.
“The Reluctant Marshall” by C. Wayne Winkle continues to follow the life and times of Frank Bannon. This work picks up from where the debut of the Frank Bannon series left off.
Following the death of his wife, he set about to work on his ranch. At some point, he realized that he did not have enough cattle and left to go buy some in Colorado.
On the way to buying the cattle, he is convinced to become a City Marshall ancestor. As the City Marshall of Alder Gulch, he is responsible for ensuring that criminals do not have free rein in the county.
Things get interesting when a criminal named Virgil Judd makes plans to steal the payroll shipment headed to the local bank. He then has all manner of unending adventures to satisfy just about every whim.
There are also some underlying currents of events that consistently enhance reader pleasure across the entire story.
The good thing about the novel is that it is great even for readers who do not normally read Western fiction. It’s an engrossing story that has Micah and Bannon working together to bring justice to wrongdoers in the small town.
“Frank and the Princess” by C. Wayne Winkle is another interesting addition to the Frank Bannon series of novels. This work is a continuation of the many adventures of Frank Bannon who is a determined man that never lets go until the work is done.
While traveling to St. Louis, he finds himself pulled into a plot by some Germans who intend to take out an heir to the British throne.
They are planning to execute their assassination plan in the United States and in the process pull the Americans into the war too.
Bannon finds himself manipulated and has to work hard to stop the assassins, even as he tries to find a way to find out who has been given the contract to take out the princess and stop them.
It is an excellent read with a lot of action, some sad parts, lots of mysteries to be solved, exciting characters and moments dama and excitement aplenty.
