Carl Bowen
By day, Carl Bowen works as a part-time developer and copy editor for White Wolf, where he has written numerous short stories and a fair amount of supplementary game materials. During his spare time, he shoves camels through needle eyes.

He was born June 22, 1975. He is a husband, father, and writer that lives in Lawrenceville, Georgia.

He has retold classics like Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”, “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, “The Jungle Book” by Kipling, and Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar”, as well as others for Stone Arch Books and Capstone.

His novel “Shadow Squadron: Elite Infantry” earned a starred review from Kirkus Book Reviews.

Carl’s debut novel, called “Project Utopia”, was released in the year 1998. His work is from the fantasy, horror, and science fiction genres, and he writes comics, novels, and short stories. His work is for readers grades four through six, and ages nine to twelve.

“Project Utopia” is the first novel in the “Aberrant” series and was released in the year 1998. It is much more powerful than nations. It controls even more novas than any of the other entities in the whole world. It is Project Utopia, the Earth’s stalwart guardian. Utopia has cured diseases, ended wars, and saved whole populations from starvation. Why are some novas so hell-bent to take it down?

This is the source book that details Project Utopia and all the novas who serve it. A whole organization including subsidiaries Project Proteus and Team Tomorrow covered in detail in this tome.

“Vampire” is the first novel in the “World of Darkness” series and was released in the year 2000. Adrian Cross unwittingly abets the efforts of the Technology in order to further their grandiose plans, which have basically assured them world domination. But, for their newest efforts to bear fruit, the Technology needs a much bigger sacrifice of Adrian.

The circumstances that lead to Adrian’s continued involvement have been plotted out carefully. However, they fail. This tiny crack in their encompassing plans could be an opening to the possibility of free will, which is something Adrian and his fellow man seem to be losing, slowly but surely. With the aid of two very different strangers, Adrian starts a horrifying journey of discovery that takes him into the inner workings of the World of Darkness.

While he learns more, he starts wondering if maybe he was safer being ignorant about everything.

There is great political intrigue and backstabbing. Carl gives a stellar look at a character’s descent from humanity.

“The Directive” is the second novel in the “Aberrant” series and was released in the year 2000. Even in the nova age, trust is a rare commodity. Not even Project Utopia watchman, protector, and hero to the world is as what it appears to be. Who keeps their eye out for you? It is The Directive. The Directive is one intelligence organization unlike any other. It hears, sees, and knows things that it just shouldn’t. This is what makes it as dangerous as it is.

Or are they really after you? This book includes all that anybody wants to know about Aberrant’s Directive. Where it comes from, what it does, who it works for, and the tools that it uses to gather intelligence on certain suspicious novas. Could you be subtle enough to be one of the Directive’s agents?

“A Day Dark As Night” is the first novel in the “Exalted” series and was released in the year 2004. Harmonious Jade is one of the most lethal women in the legendary time that is the Second Age of Man. She, who was chosen by the Unconquered Sun himself, has been remade into a demigod whose bow can fell entire companies of men.

With this exaltation, have come the echoes of ancient memories and the sense that she has to use her gifts for a greater purpose. Chasing these phantasms from a past life as well as the trail of all the demonic cultists that raised her and betrayed her and finally makes it to the trading city of the Nexus. While there, she meets others of her kind. Are they long-lost companions? Deadly foes? Both?

“Pillar of Sun” is the fourth novel in the “Exalted” series and was released in the year 2005. Against the Barbarian Horde.

The First Age Lunar Ma-Ha-Suchi has released a barbarian army to ravage all Hundred Kingdoms. They burn and loot all that is in its path on a ruthless march into the Realm’s heart. Nothing is able to stand against the Arczeckh horde. But then it crosses paths with Panther, an ex-pit fighter whose fearsome skills were legendary even before his Exaltation.

“Critical Strike” is a novel in the “Shadow Squadron” series and was released in the year 2014. In the modern age of warfare and politics, the crucial battles all take place behind the scenes, and that is right where Shadow Squadron succeeds. Under Lieutenant Commander Ryan Cross’ leadership, this elite group of soldiers completes missions around the world that nobody else has the training or the talent to even handle.

While the successes of this team start to mount, so too does the complexity of each of their missions. The best course of action ends up being tough to determine.

These books are excellent and quick reads. The stories have great graphics and action packed throughout. Carl creates multi-layered characters, that is paired rather well with a fantastic woven storyline.

“Rogue Agent” is a novel in the “Shadow Squadron” series and was released in the year 2014. Whenever there is a dangerous and near-impossible mission that needs to be done, Shadow Squadron is the only ones up for the job. Through the years, this elite group of soldiers has utilized its superior skills in order to resolve conflicts happening all around the globe under Ryan Cross’ leadership.

The world is still riddled with warfare, and there is still some work that needs to be done for this covert team. With traitors, new members, and some rogue agents, it is tough to know who you can trust. Is the Shadow Squadron going to work as a single expert unit to secure others’ safety and accomplish their increasingly treacherous missions?

Hi, Carl! I was just thinking today of my most promising students from the J-school’s broadcast writing class all those years ago and thought first of you. I figured/hoped you had found time to write. And, boy, have you! Bravo! Best wishes!
