Carole Towriss
Carole Towriss was born and grew up in San Diego, California. Her mom taught her all about Jesus before she could even talk. She is incredibly thankful for the legacy her mom and her mom’s mom left her, a history of faith that was born of adversity. Compared to both of them, Carole feels that her life has been a cakewalk.
She met her husband John (whom she has been married to for over thirty years) in college, where she majored in English Education. She taught high schoolers for many years before she stayed home full-time to start their family.
It took John and Carole quite some time to build their family. They had been married ten years when Emma, their first daughter, was born on Christmas Eve. Their younger three kids (Mira, Johnny, and Dara) were adopted from Kazakhstan.
They live just outside of Washington, DC. It is a great place, they find, for their multicultural family. The school system there has students coming from more than 150 countries, and their church has members from more than twenty.
She writes, eats chocolate, waits for summer to come back to the beach, and watches chick flicks, when she isn’t telling her kids to pick up their shoes and making tacos.
Carole writes the “Brandon Beach” series and the “Journey to Canaan” series, as well as some stand alone novels. Her work is from the Christian and historical fiction genres. Her debut novel, called “In the Shadow of Sinai”, was released in the year 2012.
“In the Shadow of Sinai” is the first novel in the “Journey to Canaan” series and was released in the year 2012. Bezalel is one of the Hebrew slaves to Ramses II. Ramses, an artisan of the highest order, has kept him inside the palace even when the other Israelites have gotten banned. Bezalel blames EL Shaddai for keeping isolating him from all his people.
Moses and Aaron appear a summer, and El Shaddai shakes Egypt right to its core, Bezalel has to reexamine his anger.
Over the next year, Bezalel’s life gets intertwined with that of an Egyptian child-slave, the captain of the guard, and particularly a gorgeous young concubine.
Spring comes, and all of them escape with the young nation of Israel. That is just the start, though.
Readers found this to be a fantastic debut that grabbed some from the first page and held them right until the end. Fans appreciated the intensity of all the characters as well as their convictions and doubts. Carole’s writing is fresh and engaging; it stirs your thinking well after you have finished it.
“By the Waters of Kadesh” is the second novel in the “Journey to Canaan” series and was released in the year 2013. One displaced soldier is expecting nothing but empty tomorrows. There is a young widow that knows nothing but yesterdays of neglect and abuse. One spy sees just a present he is able to manipulate to get the power he craves. Are they going to allow Yahwh to give them what they really need?
Kamose, who used to be one of Egypt’s most trusted soldiers, who no longer has a king to protect or country to serve. Moses has insisted that God has got a plan for him, yet Kamose is rather uncertain about that. Tirzah’s cruel husband died right after they left Egypt. She was able to escape from his brutality, but now she is all alone, and once they get to their new land, how is she going to survive?
Tirzah’s brother-in-law, Gaddiel, is chosen to be one of the dozen spies sent to scout Canaan. He is supposed to just go in, get the information, and come right back. All he really wants, however, is to bring down Joshua.
“The Walls of Arad” is the third novel in the “Journey to Canaan” series and was released in the year 2016. Everybody knows that Joshua fought at the battle of Jericho. Even before Jericho, there was Arad. Forty years have gone by since Israel was able to escape from Egypt. Their punishment has ended, and the time to take the land has come. Arisha, a secret Yahweh worshiper, fled from Canaan to find safety. In Miriam’s care, she has started healing, but Miriam is about to die.
She wants assurance that this abandoned and abused young lady is going to have a good life, and entreats Zadok to marry her. He is Bezalel’s grandson, who was the architect of the Tabernacle, as well as the great-grandson of Hur, the adviser to Moses.
Chosen by Aaron to shepherd the Tabernacle flock, he has got a gentle spirit that Miriam thinks will heal Abigail’s heart. The Canaanite king of Arad has heard all about the rather mighty deeds of Israel’s God, and is afraid that he is going to be destroyed just like Egypt was. Arad goes on the offensive, and Zadok will be required to make a choice. Now, a shepherd’s heart is not able to save Arisha. This time, she will need a warrior.
“Just Until Christmas” is the first novel in the “Brandon Beach” series and was released in the year 2015. Hope Aristov shows up in Brandon Beach to live in her old home for three months, just enough time to finish up a residency requirement so she will be able to sell the house and not pay any capital gains taxes. Then she is going right back to Bethesda, Maryland.
Ian MacKay owns the one grocery store in the one-square-mile beach town. Hope blows right into his store, and he likes her looks, just not her attitude. While he starts getting to know her, he starts liking her, way too much when he finds out she is just staying until Christmas.
While they spend more time together, he struggles to keep his feelings in check. Is Hope going to take a risk, and open up her heart to what God has got in store for her? Will Ian do what’s best for Hope, and just allow God to take control? Even if he has to give her up?
