Caroline Linden is a bestselling romance author from New England whose CV looks like that of someone that should be an astronaut or academic.

Given her rabid love for mystery fiction, the crime fiction author has always looked at authorship of fiction like the best thing she could ever do for herself.

However, Linden went to Harvard from where she earned her degree in mathematics. Thereafter she got married and moved to Florida alongside her husband.
Several years later, she decided to move back to the north east and since she was so bored, she decided to pen her own stories. “What a Woman Needs,” which is her debut novel, was purchased by Zebra in 2005. The author now has more than two dozen novels across more than five series and several single standing titles.

Linden is known for writing stories about the elite of Regency England, even if she usually throws in a mystery or two to season the story.

Growing up, all Caroline Linden wanted to be was to be an astronaut or fashion designer depending on the season. Since she could never manage both careers, she decided to let go of fashion design and concentrated on becoming an astronaut.

Working as an astronaut always seemed like a very interesting career until she was told she would never be allowed in the space shuttle unless she dedicated her life to science or joined the military. Linden could never join the military as she hated running in combat boots and hence decided to be a physicist.
Between calculus and physics, she was reading a lot during this time. She used to read the likes of Nancy Drew to William Shakespeare and Thomas Hardy in addition to a ton of romance novels. She loved losing herself in the worlds created by authors but at school, she was a Mathematics major.

Following her graduation, she moved to lovely Florida where she was a programmer for several years. With their two kids in tow, they decided to move back to the North East so that they could be closer to better schools and family.

Initially, the family loved living in the North East until snow season came and the snow would not let up. Her life turned even more unbearable and chaotic as her children became naughty monkeys while her home needed a ton of major electrical repair work.

In one of the revolving blackouts, she was feeling trapped when she thought why not create some imaginary worlds and characters who inhabit it and tell their story. It was from the manuscript that she wrote at this time that she got the motivation to try her hand at becoming an author.

After three manuscripts over five years of writing and several rejections, her agent told her that “What a Woman Needs” had been sold.

“Love and Other Scandals” by Caroline Linden is the story of Tristan, Viscount Burke and Joan Bennet. These two have known about each other ever since they were children, given that Tristan happens to be the best friend to Bennet’s brother.

He is known for his poor manners, rakish, wild behavior and disregard for social conventions. But Burke is also an immensely wealthy, ridiculously charming and gorgeous man whose flaws are often overlooked by most people.

On the other hand is twenty four year old Joan, who tries to be the perfect daughter following the instructions of her mother. She even puts on the hairstyles and clothes recommended by her mother no matter how unflattering.

Things are made worse by the fact that the current taste is for the svelte and petite while she is curvaceous and tall. As expected, the ringlets, flounces and ruffles that her mother recommends do not flatter her body type.

The novel is the classic combination of the Ugly Duckling and rake meets spinster stories. The sparks are generated right from the moment Joan and Tristan lay eyes on each other and never lets up right to the very end.

Caroline Linden’s novel “It Takes a Scandal” is the story of Sebastian Vane, a man who is back home with a shattered leg from injuries sustained in the war. His father who has been slowly going insane goes missing soon after his return.

Things get very interesting when a new neighbor moves into the neighborhood alongside Abigail, a beautiful young woman. His new neighbors, Abigail and her younger siblings are new arrivals in the country manor and hence there is a lot of suspicion from the locals.

When Sebastien and Abigail meet in the woods, she sees him as a man that needs someone to believe in him, even though he is perfectly capable of protecting himself. Abigail seems more reasonable but just as her feelings for Sebastien start rising, Benedict Lennox, a newcomer to the area, arrives.

He is a persistent man who will not let up his pursuit of her and she is forced to make a choice between the man who won her heart and the man who is supremely wealthy that her parents would like her to marry.

“Love in the Time of Scandal” by Caroline Linden tells the story of Penelope Weston, who could not be feeling any more alone. Her friend and sister are both happily married women and hence the dances, soirees and balls she used to love seem to have lost all the glamor.

The only friend she has left is a loving and gentle widow that seems to be haunted. When her friend disappears, Penelope gets right into the action trying to find her and soon finds herself in a sticky situation that she seemingly cannot extricate herself from despite how hard she tries.

It is only from the help of Benedict that she finally manages to extricate herself. He is a man that has been under the cruel hand of his father for years and what he needs is to get wedded to a rich woman with whom he can finally find peace and freedom.

He wants to settle for a practical and calm woman with no hint of passion or adventure. When Penelope finds herself in a tough situation because some man is hellbent on revenge, he decides he needs to marry her and ultimately make her love him.
