Carrie Ryan is a New York Times bestselling author of mystery, children’s fiction, and young adult fantasy.
The Greenville South Carolina raised author went to Williams College and then proceeded to earn her degree in law from the School of Law at Duke University. She would then go on to practice as a lawyer before she quit to become a full time author.

Ryan published the “Forest of Hands and Teeth,” her debut novel that spawned her first series of novels in 2009. Once she published that blockbuster novel, she has never looked back and now has more than a dozen novels across different series.

With the novels in her debut series becoming so popular, “The Forest of Hands and Teeth” was optioned to be made into a major motion picture. She currently lives with her lawyer/writer husband in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has also collaborated with her husband in writing the “Map to Everywhere” series of novels.

Growing up, Carrie Ryan used to read everything and anything that she could get her hands on. As the youngest of three siblings she used to rifle through the bookshelves of her sisters and this is probably how she started reading romance while she was still very young.

Ryan still remembers how she used to stay up late reading R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike. To this day, she believes that she became a speed reader from flipping the pages of their books.

Carrie first thought she would become an author after listening to a romance author who said she became an author after thinking she could write after she finished reading a novel. As soon as she read those words, she thought why not me too.

For some reason, she just thought that romance novels would be her thing when she became an author. But it was not until several years later that she took the plunge and came to realize that she was also good at writing novels not necessarily in the romance genre.

It was in 2006 that she realized that young adult fiction was becoming very popular and this was just the nudge she needed.

One question Carrie Ryan always gets asked is why she ended up a lawyer when she wanted to become an author so bad. Unlike most authors, Carrie knew that the odds of making it as an author were pretty slim. As such, she decided to study law so that she would have a backup plan.

Once she got into college, she found that she loved studying the law but practicing it was another matter. Starting in 2006 while she was working at a law firm she looked at her husband at dinner and told him I need an exit plan. This was the time she started becoming serious with her writing.

Before she went to law school, she had completed two manuscripts that she had submitted to an agent. As such, she rejoined the author community by becoming a member of the Romance Writers of America. She also began making friends in the community, reading blogs and writing once again.

Carrie wrote several manuscripts before she embarked on writing “The Forest of Hands and Teeth” during the 2006 edition of NaNoWriMo. By April of the following year, she was done with her first draft and started revising until her critique partner got fed up and submitted it to her own agent.

It was this action that prompted her to take out all her manuscripts and send the query letterS she had been keeping in her draft box. She soon signed with an agent and by October her debut was sold.

Carrie Ryan’s “The Forest of Hands and Teeth” is the story of Mary who believes in simple truths. In her world, she knows the Unconsecrated will never give up, the Guardians will serve and protect and the Sisterhood knows best.

She has been taught ever since she was a child that the forest protecting her village from the evil “Forest of Hands and Teeth” needs to be tended to and maintained. But slowly over time, what she thought were unchangeable truths started slowly failing on her.

She has recently been discovering some disturbing things about the Sisterhood which has some dark secrets. The Unconsecrated and their relentlessness are also not so pure while the power of the Guardians may not be something she can depend on.

Soon enough her world turns chaotic when the fence is breached and she has to make a choice between her future and the village.
She had planned for a future filled with love and romance but may have to leave all that behind. She also needs to come to terms with the reality of the “Forest of Hands and Teeth.” Will she be able to live in a place filled w9ith so much death?

“The Dead-Tossed Waves” by Carrie Ryan is a brilliant novel that tells the story of Gabry. She has always led a quiet life in the town trapped between the ocean and a forest that teems with the dead, always out hunting for the living.

She has been content living to one side of the Barrier even though many of her friends would do anything to get to the coastal Dark City, which can be seen from her lighthouse balcony. But even the Barrier strong as it is, cannot hold back some threats.

For instance, the threat of the secrets her mother left behind when she ran away from the Forest of Hands and Teeth and the Sisterhood. Other threats include the forest stranger who claims to know Gabry and the zealots known for worshipping the dead.

Everything suddenly seems to be changing and in one reckless moment, half of the people she knew and grew up with are dead and the other half is dead. The only way she can save herself is to face her mother’s past and the forest.

Carrie Ryan’s “The Dark and Hollow Places” is the story of Anna.
There are many things she wishes she could forget; the barbed wire that had left a permanent scar on her body, seeing the Horde swarm into the Dark City, her sister’s loOk as she abandoned her in the Forest of Hands and Teeth and the morning Elias told her he would be leaving her so that he would become a Recruiter.

She had felt as if her world was coming to an end when the latter happened and since then, she has always hoped that Elia would come back. Ever since that day she felt that her life was no better than that of the living dead that roamed all over the ruined city.
But then she started feeling alive when she met Catcher. But the man too has his own terrifying and dark secrets that link him to a past that she believed she had managed to forget and a future she knows would be too deadly. She has to make a difficult choice.
