Chandelle LaVaun
Chandelle LaVaun is a fantasy writer whose love for Harry Potter and The Mortal Instruments inspired her to become a writer. Some of her works include The Coven: Elemental Magic series and The Coven: Old Magic standalone novel. When not writing, LaVaun soaks up the sun on the beach reading.

The Hidden Witch
It’s the debut novel in The Coven: Academy Magic series. The book features Bettina Blair, who used to believe magic isn’t real, but currently, everything seems to be changing. She thought she was just an ordinary 16-year old girl, and her best friend had just moved, leaving her a chance to make new friends. Bettina seems invisible, and even the school bullies do not notice her despite being in plain sight. She has tried hard to be like her classmates, but she never fits.

One day she’s invited to attend a party at Dean’s co-worker’s home. She sees this as a chance to make friends, and when she is requested to use an Ouija board, weird and strange things start happening

Now she has come to understand the reason, and it’s because she’s apparently a witch. Everyone calls her a witch at school, and she is later called to the headmaster’s office for interrogation. She refuses to go and instead heads to the isolator’s bathroom. While in there, a demon attacks her, and Dean comes to her rescue and takes her home. After the attack, her parents confess their dark secrets, and they force her to go to an elite academy of magic attended by witches only. In school, she is taken to the House of swords.

Bettina’s convinced that there is a mistake that has been made. While in school, she isn’t able to summon magic or fight with her hands, which makes her feel like she’s in the wrong place. Jackson keeps reminding her every time they cross paths that she doesn’t belong in the academy. He is known to be the most unbearable, intolerable, and judgmental person in the academy.

Jackson is a handsome gentleman with a British accent, and everyone in the school admires him. However, Bettina feels that he hates her, and she hates him too. He is the sword major, meaning he is the top student in the suit. The first time Jackson met Bettina was at Dean’s party, where he was asked to keep an eye on her. When Bettina shows up at the academy and puts into his suit, and is ordered to train her, he isn’t happy with the idea.

Bettina and her sword friends prepare the face the apocalypse while Jackson, their leader, is dealing with his own drama since any moment the Archangel Michael might come back to test him. Suddenly, Bettina is sent on a quest into the Old Lands to look for the only thing that can save Eden from a demon. She is so sure that the chances of coming back alive are in the hands of the person who wants her gone.

Most of the time, Jackson and Bettina are fighting their attraction to each other to the end. The story is narrated from Bettina’s point of view switching between her and the love interest on Jackson.

The book is a fast-paced urban fantasy adventure with a sharp heroine, an attractive hero on a love-to-hate roller coaster whose settings are in a magical academy. The secondary characters are well fleshed to make the story more fascinating.

The Lost Witch
This is the first book in The Coven: Elementary Magic series. In the story, the author introduces Tegan and her best friend going to the woods to attend ‘The Gathering.’ As they try to find their way, they come across another group of kids. Emersyon is a girl with the group and helps them to the Gathering, where they find a lot of people.

Rumors have it that the place is haunted, and just when they are having fun, things become scary, and ghosts appear as the wicked wind picks people one by one. The next thing Tegan sees is a handsome and gorgeous man with blue and green eyes. She’s immediately drawn to him, and he rescues them. They are lucky to leave the gathering, and all Tegan can think of is the charming and hot stranger.

Tennessee is the Emperor in the Coven and the leader due to his power and status, but he doesn’t want to be responsible. He can’t stop thinking about the dark-haired girl he rescued at the gathering. The Coven is ready for the arrival of the twins even though they have no idea who they are.

Things drastically change to worse after Tegan is told on her birthday that they are moving to Florida, where she’ll meet her stepmom and sister. On arrival, she notices that her brother is so happy to see his mom, and when her father tells her to go meet them, she realizes that her sister is Emeryson.

At that moment of shock, Tegan overhears her dad and stepmother arguing that they’re not ready yet. Tegan and Emeryson begin a journey to find out the truth of what’s happening. Is Emaryson and Tegan the twins expected at the Coven?

At the Coven, Tennessee kisses Tegan, and when he looks at the brand on his chest, he sees a mark of the soul mate. At that moment, he realizes that the mystery girl is her soul mate. Can things get further complicated?

Will Tegan eventually find out who the mystery man is? Will destiny bring them together or tear them apart? Will Emeryson and Tegan handle the truth?
They discover their powers and the cards they represent in the witches ‘coven,’ and the adventurous quests begin. It turns out that Tegan’s a witch, but her powers are still unlocked.

The story mixes action and romance to give an intriguing read. The love story is intense and sweet, and you’ll want to read more about what happens next. The book’s world is ordinary on the surface but mesmerizing due to the magical elements in the story. The plot is intriguing, full of mystery, drama and takes sharp turns to keep the reader guessing. The connection between Tegan and Emeryson is admirable and reflects what it means to be twins.
