Since author Chani Lynn Feener was ten years old, during story time in the fifth grade, she has wanted to be a writer. She graduated in 2012 after majoring in Creative Writing in Vermont at Johnson State College.

She worked many jobs to pay bills, some of which include: filling cartridges of ink, telemarketing, and working in a warehouse order picking.

While not writing, she binge watches television shows, going to aquariums and zoos, and drawing.

She lives on the site Goodreads, and resides in the state of Connecticut.

As an author, she writes from the seat of her pants. This is because if she tries to plot the book out before she writes it, she gets bored quickly and moves on to write something else.

The idea for “Amid Stars and Darkness” came to her because her mother was watching “Ancient Aliens”. It made Chani wonder what the people on the show would do if they actually got confronted by a real alien. The book started with her having a lead character that knew aliens were actually real, but had zero interest in interacting with them. Of course, then, she has to. These things are all she had when she began writing.

The book had the title of “Prisoner of Glass” originally, before becoming “Amid Stars and Darkness”, a title that Feener likes a lot more.

She has written “Xenith” trilogy as well as the “Underworld Saga” (which she originally published under the pen name of Tempest C. Avery). Her work is from the paranormal, romance, and young adult genres.

“Unhinged” is the first novel in the “Underworld” series, which was released in the year 2016. Spencer Perry realized that it would be a long shot when she began looking to find a way into the Underworld, where the ancient Greeks go when they die. Three months back, however, her boyfriend died and she ready to do anything to get him back. Even making a deal with the devil.

Although Hades is not quite what she thought he was going to be, and the proposal he offers is not either. To have Micah resurrected, she will have to spend every night in the Underworld for the next year. During their first meeting this god is making her feel things that she really shouldn’t, but accepts the deal. She believes that it will end up being worth it in the end.

Right when their bargain begins, though, odd things start to happen. People get attacked by forces that are invisible, and it looks like the God of the Underworld is doing it. Did Spencer unleash hell on Earth on accident?

Here is a book that sets the young adult novel bar high for some readers. Fans of the novel liked how well the author was able to show certain emotions that the characters were going through. The characters go through a lot throughout this novel, and end up growing as people, as a result. They feel like real people to readers. Some people only put the book because their eyes were tired from looking at their screen too long. Readers stayed up until about three to finish the book off, after being pulled in by the synopsis.

“Unleashed” is the second novel in the “Underworld” series, which was released in the year 2017. Spencer Perry made a deal with Hades. Her boyfriend is back from the dead, and it makes honoring the nightly trips that she promised to make off to the Underworld much tougher for her. She is torn between her loyalty for Micah and her duty to Hadrian, and it gives her more than enough to deal with than to have to worry about Persephone.

It is too bad that the original Gravewalker wants to unleash some evil spirits out on the world, and believes that Spencer is in her way. Trying to stop Persephone is going to require her to learn how to use her new found powers. Not to mention more time with Hadrian in the Underworld, something that Micah does not like at all. The clock is ticking, and she needs to accept the new role she has. She may have to accept that some loves and feelings are not going to last forever.

This book is able to be even more compelling than the first book in the series. Fans of the novel found this one to be better than the first book. Sometimes the second book in a trilogy feels like filler, but here, a lot happens and the characters go through a lot and are able to grow, making this a strong installment for the series. Some have grown to love these characters and can’t wait to read more about them in future books.

“Unbound” is the third novel in the “Underworld” series, which was released in the year 2017. There are more myths that are true than just the Underworld. Spencer Perry is aware of this more than anyone else. Nightly visits there have made her aware of such creatures as gods, Reapers, and demons. There is little that can surprise her, six months in.

Except the way that she is being treated by her best friend/ ex-boyfriend. Michah has been ignoring her since they broke up. If that was not enough for her, Persephone has come back once more. The original Gravewalker is determined to break Hadrian and Spencer up and is going to do whatever it takes. She believed that things would get easier when she made the choice and went with a god. She really was wrong.

Fans of the novel find themselves loving Spencer more and more with each and every book that they read. The books themselves, even get better, too. With this one, you get to see more of Spencer in action; she is a great main character, who is loving, tough, witty, feisty, sarcastic, and sweet, not to mention, loyal to a fault. There is a lot that happens in the book that allows the pace from the first two to still be as quick here. There are new characters, too, that some grew to love in this book.
