Hell & High Water is the first book in the THIRDS series. The book features detective Dexter J. Daley, a man who finds himself in one hell of a mess. After Dexter’s testimony is used to convict his partner for murder, he is confronted by unpleasant encounters. From the media that will not let him be to unknown people who are now roughing him up in parking garages, Dexter is not having an easy time. It doesn’t help that his friends and boyfriend have left him, and there is the fear that he may face a job transfer or get dismissed. Fortunately, Dexter’s adoptive father, a sergeant at the THIRDS or Therian-Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron in full, gets him a new job as a Defense Agent.
THIRDS enforcement agency is made up of both human and Therian shifter members who stand out because of their crime-solving skills. To say that Dexter is relieved is an understatement. The new defense agent is keen to get his life back and forget about his past woes. A meeting with his team leader Sloane Brodie doesn’t go as expected, and as Dexter settles into his new job, it becomes apparent that getting accepted by colleagues will not be as easy. It is understandable that Dexter’s team lead, Sloane is not so welcoming at first. The man has just lost a partner, and he is not so keen to replace him. However, over time, the two start to warm up to each other.
This book with a good crime case, but it is the pace and the characters that turn it into a page-turner. The words that come out of Dexter’s mouth will leave you giggling, and the banter between him and Sloane is simply excellent. Dexter is a fun guy, and it is easy to see why Sloane never had a chance. Sloane, of the other hand, is the brooding big guy and a jaguar therian shifter used to getting his way. With a lot of pain and deep secrets he is trying to hide from the world, Sloane has a different approach to life. That said, he is a great leader, and his team is happy to have someone they can depend on.
Hell & High Water is characterized by exciting action, a great cast, and charming banter. The world-building is simple, and the storyline is quite straightforward. If you are looking for a paranormal romance story with enough action to keep your heart thumping to the end, this book is ideal. Get to join Dexter and Sloane in their adventure as you enjoy the romance that is building between two unlikely characters. The pace here is relentless, and the well-fleshed characters will leave you looking forward to more of this awesomeness.
Love in Spades
Love in Spades is book one in the Four Kings Security series. The story features Anston Sharpe, a former special forces soldier who is now involved in private security in Florida. Anston or Ace, as he is popularly known, is a partial owner of Four Kings Security. His Company handles everything from cyber intelligence to armed transport, and Anston is one of its fearless and cocky employees. Anston is one man who does not shy away from taking risks, and together with his friends, the team has managed to build a reputable firm.
Colton Connolly has been working in his family’s business for years, and he is about to take the Company’s helm as his father retires. These plans are put on hold when Colton starts to get death threats. Like his life cannot get more complicated, Colton’s father contracts Four Kings Security to offer round the clock protection to his son. The last thing Colton needs now is a shadow, and the sexy Ace Sharpe is not making things easier. Even though Colton finds Ace attractive, he is determined to fight those feelings anyway he can. In a meeting on a dance floor one night, sparks fly, but Colton is careful not to get involved with a client. He has been burned before, and he understands how these things go. Starting a relationship with a client makes him unprofessional, and there is no telling how much damage this will have on his Company.
As Ace and Colton continue to interact, their passion intensifies, and it is only a matter of time before this becomes public knowledge. Still, the looming danger remains as the experts have not been able to numb the person sending the threats. At some point, Colton will have to choose either to take the plunge or walk away. Are the feelings between these two worth the fall-outs that will ensue once they decide to throw caution to the wind?
This is a highly entertaining piece that is sure to draw you in from the start. The book comes with an impressive cast and enough potential for romantic pairing. The storyline is unique, and the narration is nothing short of epic. Get to see Ace in action as he works to protect one of the most respected business moguls. Even though the two don’t hit it off at first, the chemistry between them is undeniable. It is amazing how two people who want nothing to do with each other end up sharing their deepest secrets before the book is over.
If you are looking for a sexy, fun, and thrilling read, Love in Spades is ideal. The story comes with a perfect blend of mystery and romance. This, in addition to the intriguing cast and the unique storyline. A great introduction to a series that shows great potential.
