Chris Bradford is an English author best known for his award winning Young Samurai series. The author is particularly well suited to write this series as he is trained in samurai swordmanship, karate, ninjutsu and earned his black belt in Zen Kyu Shin Taijutsu. The series began in 2008 with the release of The Way of the Warrior.
He is also the author of the Bodyguard series about a young teenaged bodyguard who protects the daughter of the President of the United States. This was another scenario where the author studied the things that he was writing about in order to create a more authentic book. He went to a close protection course and earned his qualification as a professional bodyguard. He also trained in unarmed combat, defensive driving, tactical firearms, threat assessments, surveillance, and even anti-ambush exercises.
Bradford also wrote the Soul series which features many different cultures. In order to bring a better understanding of these cultures, he lived with the Shona people in Zimbabwe, traveled the Inca trail, and meditated in a Buddhist temple in the mountains of Japan.
Prior to becoming a full-time author, Chris was a professional musician and music teacher. His peak as a musician saw him performing for Queen Elizabeth II. Music stays close to his heart and he has written many non-fictions books about the subject, including Heart & Soul: Revealing The Craft Of Songwriting.
In addition to his writing, Chris also holds events that involve samurai sword displays, martial arts demonstrations, and bodyguard training. He tours through book festivals and schools, having traveled to twenty-five countries on his tour.
Bradford describes his writing style as method-writing as he does the things that he is writing about. The author has said that this enables him to write authentic and action packed books. It also allows him to create the unique events that he puts on surrounding his books as the martial arts techniques and bodyguard skills he performs are just like the stars of his stories.
The Soul Hunters is the first book in the Soul series. The book begins as a schoolgirl named Genna Adams is attacked in a park when a stranger comes to her rescue. She believes that this was a lucky break, but when the same boy saves her from a kidnapping a week later she realizes that this may be something different. The boy, Phoenix, offers her an explanation and it’s something that she could’ve never imagined in a million years: an enemy has tracked her across timelines to lay claim to her soul. The hunters are closing in on her and Genna’s only hope is to trust in Phoenix. The two will embark on a race across time to save not only her but the entire human.
Bulletcatcher is the first book in a series of the same name. The story follows a boy named Troy who discovers that bullets cannot harm him. His amazing power gets him recruited into a secret organization that aims to put those powers to work. Troy meets Kasia, a girl with her own unique power, and the two work together to use their powers for good.
The Bodyguard series begins with Bodyguard: Recruit. Connor Reeves is a teenage kickboxing champion that wants to make his former special forces father proud. His skills get him recruited in a top-secret young bodyguard squad known as Guardian. The organization will train him in surveillance, unarmed combat, and other useful skills in order to prepare him for the dangerous missions that are ahead of him. His first assignment is to protect the First Daughter. A terrorist sleeper cell in the U.S. has been activated and they have designs on taking the President’s daughter hostage. Her safety is now in Connor’s hands.
Bodyguard: Hostage is the second book in the Bodyguard series. The first book ends with a bit of a cliffhanger and this one picks right up where that one left off. Connor remains in a battle to protect the President’s daughter and will put his own life on the line to do the job.
The Way of the Warrior is the first book in the Young Samurai series. Jack Fletcher is left alone off the coast of Japan after a shipwreck and his father and crew are murdered by pirates. Jack ends up getting rescued by a master swordsman who takes the young man under his tutelage. This sets Jack on a course to train to become a samurai, but it won’t be easy as the training is grueling both physically and psychologically. His life at Samurai School is difficult because he is bullied as an outsider. He does have on friend, Akiko, who helps give him the courage to prove himself. With deadly rivals and difficult challenges ahead, Jack will be pushed to his limits.
The Young Samurai series continues with The Way of the Sword. This book follows the next chapter of Jack’s training as he learns the Way of the Sword. The lessons involve fighting blindfold, using a staff, and finding messages in origami. The learning curve and pressure is high for him as he is a foreigner and a lot of this is completely new to him. The school holds a contest to learn the great samurai Masamoto-sama’s secret martial arts technique and Jack believes that he must win in order to protect his prized possession.
Heart And Soul: Revealing The Craft Of Songwriting is a non-fiction book by Chris Bradford about songwriting. He wrote the book to inspire and educate aspiring song writers as well as to teach people who would like to learn how some of their favorite songs were created. The book is a mix of songwriting secrets and a look into the minds of the most songwriters of all-time. The book contains advice on finding inspiration, writing effective lyrics, and songwriting tips for successful songwriters. The book features many famed musicians, including Billy Bragg, producer Steve Levine, and Motown writers Holland, Dozier, and Holland.
