The Hunter is a prequel to the Robert Hunter series. |
The crime fiction series called ‘Robert Hunter’ written by him is widely popular. Almost all the books in this series have been extremely successful. This has helped him to establish himself as one of the prolific writers of the crime fiction genre. Author Carter was born in Brasilia, Brazil. He spent all his childhood days and growing years in Brasilia.
After completing his high school education, author Carter shifted to The United States, where he enrolled himself for studying psychology with a specialization in the course of criminal behavior. While still studying at the University, he was involved in doing a number of odd jobs, including selling burgers, steaks, as well as being a part of an exotic group of all male dancers.
Right after the completion of graduation from the university, author Carter began working as a criminal psychologist. He continued with this profession for a few years before getting shifted to Los Angeles. There, he had a change in profession and got rid of briefcases and suits in order to give way for bandanas, ripped jeans, and electric guitars.
After going for a spell of playing for a few well known bands of glam rock, author Carter decided to try his luck in England. He moved to London and was fortunate enough to meet and play for a number of popular artists. As a professional musician, author Carter toured a number of countries of the world on multiple occasions.
Very recently, he gave everything up to try his hand at writing crime fiction novels. Eventually, he went on to become a full time writer. The Robert Hunter series written by author Chris Carter consists of a total of 7 books, which were published between the years 2009 and 2014. The debut novel of the series was published under the title ‘The Crucifix Killer’.
It was released by the Simon and Schuster publishers, The United Kingdom, in the year 2009. All the books in the series feature the central character in the form of Robert Hunter, who is described by the author as a Homicide Detective in Los Angeles. At the start of the book, it is shown that the dead body of a woman is found in an abandoned cottage in the National Forest in Los Angeles.
This case proves to be a recurring and horrific nightmare for Detective Robert Hunter as he is asked to investigate the sadistic torturing and murder of the young woman. The crime scene showed that the young woman was stripped naked and was strung from parallel posts.
She was brutally tortured by the killer before meeting an extremely painful death. While she was still alive and being tortured, all the skin of her face was removed by the sadistic killer. Then, he carved a strange sign of double cross on the nape of the woman’s neck. The sign belonged to that of a psychopath killer named, the Crucifix Killer.
But, it was quite unbelievable because the Crucifix Killer was arrested and executed around a couple of years go. The police as well as Robert Hunter begins to think whether someone else is trying to copy the killing styles of the Crucifix Killer or he is still away from the reach of them.
The real killer appears to be still out there in open, ready to attempt one more vicious and violent murder spree. He seems to be selecting his victims at random and every time he commits a brutal murder, he taunts Robert Hunter for not still not being able to catch him.
With the investigation to find some clues about the sadistic murderer moving further, Detective Robert Hunter and his investigating partner appear to be moving into a world of unimaginable nightmare. The second book of the Robert Hunter series written by author Chris Carter was published under the title ‘The Executioner’.
It was also released by the Simon and Schuster publishers in the year 2010. The main plot of this book features the lead characters in the form of Robert Hunter, Claire Anderson, Ian Hopkins, Barbara Blake, Carlos Garcia, Jonathan Winston, and Mike Brindle, etc.
Author Carter has asked the readers in the first lines of the novel to imagine their worst fear and then meet their worst nightmare, by reading the story of this book. As the plot of the novel begins, it is depicted that a blood soaked and decapitated body of one of the priests on the altar steps inside a church in Los Angeles.
The condition of the dead body of the priest was so disturbing that it would cause nightmares to even the most strong minded men. His body was carefully positioned, arms were kept on the chest like a cross, legs were stretched out, and the most horrifying thing of all was that the head of the priest was replaced with the head of a dog.
When the forensic team reaches the spot for doing further investigation, they find that the letter ‘3’ was carved in blood on the chest of the victim. Robert Hunter initially believes that the killing was ritualistic. But when more and more dead bodies begin to surface after being murdered in a similar manner, he is forced to think otherwise.
Later, Robert comes to know that all the victims were killed in ways that they most feared. Also, it turned out that the worst nightmares of all the victims had come true. The most important question that bothers Robert Hunter is that how did the killer each of the victims and what was the link between all those random victims?
Riding on top of the little clues that he was able to collect, Robert Hunter goes on the trail of one of the most sadistic and elusive killers. The brutal killer seemed to have the ability to read the minds of all the victims. He was also to sense what each of the victims were scared of. In the end, it appeared that the sadistic killer would stop at nothing for achieving his twisted goals.
However, Robert Hunter was also equally determined to stop him from claiming the lives of any more victims and catch him before time runs out.

I’ve just started Genesis and as usual am hooked the first page. I absolutely love the way Mr Carter writes and can truly say he’s one of my favourite writers. Whilst I’m in limbo waiting for his next work to be released I’m happy to say I’ve discovered Richard Montanari as a very easy to read author. So I’m happy when Chris is writing his compelling superb books and I thank him so much for all his hard work
