The American writer Christie Golden, who is also known Jadrien Bell, is a well known writer of fantasy, horror and science-fiction. Creating stories and worlds, she is well known for her various contributions to big-named franchises, such as Star Wars and Starcraft 2. This, along with her stories and titles, has allowed her to become one of the biggest names currently working within the industry to date.
Early and Personal Life
Born in Tennessee in the United States, the future author to be Christie Golden was born on the 21st of November in 1963. Growing up in the state for most of her upbringing, she would spend most of her formative years harnessing her love of the written word. Developing this over-time she would establish herself as an erudite and highly articulate writer with a lot to say.
This passion would continue throughout her education, as she would constantly be looking for new and exciting ideas with which to write about. With a clear fondness for genre fiction, specifically science-fiction, she would immerse herself heavily within this world, taking it all in. Educating herself in the craft as well, she would constantly be putting her many experiences back into her work as well.
A member of a number of prestigious organizations, many of which she chairs herself, Christie Golden is a highly active member of the literary community. Taking in inspiration from the world around her, she has a huge imaginative scope, something which is clearly reflected within her work. Her work is also very much involved with huge big-name franchises, something which she has also involved herself within for much of her life.
Currently living in the state of Michigan, Christie Golden continues to regularly write to this very day. Maintaining a strong presence both online and off, she has built a strong relationship with her many fans worldwide. This is expected to continue for some time yet, as far more readers are discovering her work and novels every day.
Writing Career
Starting out in 1991 she made her break with the novel ‘Vampires of the Mist’, which is what created her name for her. This was to be a part of the dungeons and dragons ‘Ravenloft’ line of books, created for the company TSR, Incorporated. The book would also mark her first venture into the world of franchised writing giving her a head-start within the industry.
She has also written books of her own as stand-alone titles too, such as ‘King’s Man and Thief’ along with ‘Instrument of Fate’. It is her work with big-named companies that has really pushed her career forwards, as she has expanded the canon of many a franchise. This has included such companies as Disney with her work on Star War, and Blizzard with her work on video-games like Starcraft 2 and World of Warcraft.
Also known for writing under the name of Jadrien Bell, she creates fantasy novels as well, many of which have won awards. Receiving the ‘Colorado Author’s League Award’ in 1999, she won it for ‘Best Genre Novel’ for her highly regarded book ‘A.D. 999’. At certain points she has even been asked to contribute to the television shows themselves, following her impressing the producers of the show, such as that of ‘Invasion America’.
A firm favorite on the science-fiction scene, she has situated herself as one of the main figures to go to, if not the primary one, when expanding upon a franchise. This has also been reflected in how she interacts with her many fans, all of whom eagerly await each book with anticipation. A mainstay of the scene, she is appreciated by both critics and fans alike, with a worldwide following that’s growing every day.
Still with a lot more to come out it seems that there’s plenty of franchised entertainment whose canon will continue under Golden. Moving it forwards, she has become an instrumental part in many of their successes, allowing them to expand and grow. Not showing signs of stopping any time soon either, she will carry on growing from strength-to-strength as an author.
Dark Disciple
Brought out through the ‘Lucas Books’ publishing outlet, this was set to be a part of the official Star Wars canon. Set in the universe of the hit franchise, this is a story in of itself, working in as an official part of the overall narrative. First brought out on the 7th of July in 2015, this managed to further build upon the ever huge and ever expansive universe as a whole.
With one of the most dangerous warriors of the dark side out there, it would seem that the only way to defeat it is for the Sith and the Jedi to join forces. Many fatalities are taking their toll, as the numbers are growing day-by-day, with Sith Lord Count Dooku taking more and more control of the galaxy every day. Pairing the one-time acolyte of the Sith Asajj Ventress with the Jedi Knight Quinlan Vos, the Council hope to overcome this enemy. Will they be able to to, though? Can the really ever hope to work together? What will become of the dark disciple?
Starcraft II: Flashpoint
Marking the third title in the ongoing Starcraft 2 series of novels, these books are set to run in conjunction with the hit video-game franchise. Set between the ‘Wings of Liberty’ and the ‘Heart of the Swarm’ installments of the game, this effectively fills in the missing section of the story-line. Brought out through the ‘Simon and Schuster’ publishing label, it was first brought out on 6th of November in 2012 to an already eager public.
Having been ousted by Jim Raynor in the previous ‘Wings of Liberty’ installment of the Starcraft 2 franchise, Sarah Kerrigan is recuperating from being the Queen of the Zerg. With Arcturus Mingsk and the Dominion now after her vowing revenge for the blood she spilt whilst part of the swarm, despite him putting her there in the first place, it is up to Raynor to protect the woman he loves. Now herself again and not part of the Zerg collective mind, they must do whatever it takes to prevent being taken by the Dominion. Will they escape the authoritarian Mingsk? How far will Raynor go to protect the woman he loves? What will it take them both to reach flashpoint?
