Clare Boyd is a bestselling mystery author from Surrey that once upon a time used to work as a model. The author grew up in London and moved out of the UK when her children were young to go work. She now makes her home in Surrey from where she writes her novels from the bottom of her garden.
Boyd published “Little Liar,” her debut novel in 2018 and has never looked back since. As a film buff, she can often be found going to the cinema and eating too many sweets and popcorn. She also loves hiking and together with her husband spend much of their time in the mountains.
Weirdly, she is scared of heights, even though she agreed to spend her honeymoon in the Highlands.
Before Clare Boyd became an author, she was a model and had a television career in addition to being a documentaries researcher and script editor for Channel Four and the BBC.
Working as a script editor on EastEnders, she used to see a lot of strange things such as pregnant women smoking cigarettes in their hospital
gowns and men chatting on their phones with exes in their heads.
It is at this time that she felt a strong urge to become an author and started penning her manuscript for her debut novel.
Clare Boyd’s novel “Little Liar” explores what could be a perfect lie or perfect family. When the peace in the night is pierced by a child’s screams, Mira calls the police as any good neighbor would. She is concerned about the safety of the little girl next door named Rosie.
When she opens her door the next morning, she sees social workers conversing with the picture perfect family. Gemma’s flawless life is crumbling all around her as she fights to protect her daughter from a terrible secret that could destroy the family she loves.
But it seems as if Rosie has been talking to someone behind Gemma’s back and has also lied to the cops. When Rosie goes missing, Gemma blames herself until she stumbles upon a little pink diary that has some devastating truths.
This is an utterly engrossing, tense and razor sharp page turner about the secrets people keep and who they choose to trust.
“Three Secrets” by Clare Boyd is an interesting story that explores suciide and its effect on the family. Robert is a level headed man who walks from his home one morning as if heading to the shops to get wine. But then he heads to the nearby footbridge and commits suicide by jumping to his death.
Two years later, his wife Francesca and their young daughter are forced to leave the capital as they do not have enough money to live on. Robert’s mother has invited them to take up a little college in his native village.
Francesca could not be any more grateful but wonders why she is so keen on having them so close to her. Could she be aware of what she had done a few hours before her son’s tragic death. It is not long before Francesca starts to believe there was something sinister about her husband’s death.
There could be some dark secrets in his life that far overshadowed hers. The closer she gets to getting to the truth the more she finds herself in danger. It is a twisty and gripping psychological thriller.
Clare Boyd’s novel “My Perfect Wife” opens to Elizabeth Huxley frustrated. She finally has everything she ever wanted with a beautiful house, two angelic childrens she loves and a devoted husband.
But when she sees her husband chat up the girl next door, she wonders if anyone can see behind the facade of straight white teeth and pretty pink smile. She thinks she can detect a hint of desire in her husband’s eyes and a flicker of fear in hers.
She has been wrong before and was almost declared crazy and hence cannot afford to be again as this time he will take her children away. The party she is organizing is her last chance to prove to her husband that she is not crazy.
She will have to show that she can handle something as simple as throwing a party without collapsing under the pressure. Everything had been going on fine until she saw something in the pool that changed everything.
This is an excellent page turner that explores the darker side of marriage and relationships and asserts that a lot may be going on under what may seem like perfect lives.
