It would continue with more novels, such as Below the Fold, the second installment, and is an intriguing and fun mystery series if you’re looking for something that is light and enjoyable to read! The stories can be read in any order or on their own but it is recommended that they be read chronologically for the best experience!
Yesterday’s News is the first novel in the Clare Carlson Mystery series by R.G. Belsky. When a cold case from the past opens again, will chaos come along with it?
Lucy Devlin was just 11 when she disappeared over a decade ago. The girl was going to school when she suddenly vanished. The horrible incident quickly gained notoriety and became one of history’s most renowned missing child cases. It was never solved and Lucy unfortunately never returned.
Clare Carlson benefited from her coverage of this story. She was a reporter at the time and covered it, making her a prominent media fixture virtually overnight. Just like that, she was in demand and was on television breaking exclusive stories one after the other. As a result of the case, she had access to the family that many others would not have had.
Clare would write about what the Devlins were doing to try and track Lucy down. While they never made progress, the reporter would get a Pulitzer for her work covering this case. But the fact that it was never resolved bothers her and she just can’t get Lucy out of her mind. Now she is diving into this story once more thanks to new suspects, victims, and evidence. Could this case be solved?
Characters are coming out of the woodwork, like biker gang members to politicians and more, and they all seem to be keeping secrets– just like Clare is. Can she find Lucy? Or will she have to face up to the past in order to try and make any progress at all? Read this novel to find out!
Below the Fold is the second novel in the Clare Carlson Mystery series written by R.G. Belsky. When it comes to murder, sometimes a death can really set things off.
Everyone knows that human life is precious, but when it comes to journalism these days, if it bleeds, it leads. When it comes to TV news, ratings are everything and the field is very competitive. Clare Carlson knows that when it comes to the news, murder, money, power and sex are all big sellers. But when it comes to murder victims, those that are considered to be more elite are covered, while average people are passed over because they’re simply not well known.
Thus it is when a New York City homeless woman is found all beaten up that Dora Gayle’s death is not considered news worthy. The news barely covers it, but Clare is a news director and has worked as a reporter for a long time. Her gut tells her that there is more to this case. As she digs into it, she starts finding connections between powerful and wealthy individuals and Dora, of all people.
Clare starts to look into things more and is shocked by the people that are coming up as links. There’s a defense attorney, a former congressman, a detective with the NYPD, and the wealthy man that owns media stations like crazy, including the place that employs Clare. When more victims turn up, the questions grow.
Clare’s committed to breaking this story, but will it be the end of her? Can Clare avoid the ruin of her career and job and even her life as she tries to figure out what’s going on? Read this mystery book to find out!
The Last Scoop is the third novel in the Clare Carlson Mystery series written by R.G. Belsky. If you enjoyed the adventures of Clare in the first two books, check out what’s going on this book too!
Clare Carlson is a journalist at heart. She’ll always remember the first editor she had, Martin Barlow. He became her mentor and was the inspiration for her journalism career. He’s now retired from the newspaper but has not done well in the meantime. Martin appears to have become overly interested in conspiracies and cover-ups. Clare has been out of touch for some time attempting to make her career work.
Then tragedy strikes as Martin dies. He’s killed while out in public in what appears to be a botched attempt at a mugging. To others, he was just an elderly man that was the victim of a bad incident. But Clare knew him better than that and they were once very close. She feels guilty for not checking in as much because of being busy and not taking the time. So she decides that she’s going to make up for it by investigating.
Martin had a last case he was working on, and Clare looks through his files to see what he had found out. She is shocked when she discovers that he’s been trying to work on a case involving a serial killer that could be even more prolific and active than the infamous killers that had come before him in the past.
If she can break the case, it will be the hugest story of her career. She’s working to find this serial killer, but will the journey come with a bad reward? Read this thriller to find out!
