About Clare Chase

A British writer of mystery thrillers and crime fiction, Clare Chase has an eye for perfectly building suspense in her novels. Setting up intriguing premises, she has an acute understanding of what it is that her audience is looking for, making sure she delivers on every level. Creating an in-depth collection of stories that draw from a whole range of different influences, she is very much her own author. Writing in a style that is very much her own, she sets herself apart in both her approach and her tone, allowing her to say something different.

Offering readers a window into another world, many of her stories provide amateur sleuthing, dealing with different mysteries and investigations. Keeping her audience glued to the edge of their seat throughout, she manages to establish a real rapport with them. Establishing a real sense of atmosphere and ambiance too, she allows her stories to come alive an speak to the reader in a manner that’s quite unlike anything else. Over time, this has seen her become a hugely successful household name for many, with her grounded realism and authenticity.

Creating characters is another feature of Chase’s writing to take note of, as she’s extremely gifted at fully fleshing out personalities. Many of her sleuths are recurring, as they become familiar with readers, making sure they return to her work time and time again. Writing several series, her books continue to draw in readers worldwide, as her stories resonate regardless of where her audience hails from. There’s a lot more planned in the pipeline too, as she will carry on writing for many years to come, into the foreseeable future.

Early and Personal Life

Growing up in the Midlands, Clare Chase was raised with a keen passion for all things literature, nurturing her love of the form from an early age. This interest of hers would develop over time, allowing her to find her voice, becoming the writer that she currently is today. Attending London University, she would study English there, before going on to work in both author and book promotion.

Working for the University of Cambridge too, she’s held positions in PR, finding her voice as a creative writer with something to say. She also works at the Royal Society of Chemistry, where she works in the day when not writing, all the while looking for her next big idea. Living in the UK still, she continues to write regularly, with plenty more books set for release on the horizon, as she spends time with her family.

Writing Career

In 2014 Clare Chase would write and publish her first novel titled ‘You Think You Know Me,’ which was the first in her ‘London and Cambridge Mysteries’ franchise. Later she would also publish the series ‘Tara Thorpe,’ and the ‘Eve Mallow Mystery’ collection, as she would often focus on mysteries. Over time these would go on to find an audience, as many would come to appreciate her work, from the public to the critics alike. Maintaining a presence both online and off, she continues to draw in inspiration and write on an ever consistent basis.

Murder in the Fens

The fourth book in the ‘Tara Thorpe Mystery’ series, this would carry on from the previous three, while paving the way for more to potentially follow. Released in 2019 on the 24th of June through the Bookouture publishing label, as it provided another self-contained mystery. While the series can be read in any order, it does have ongoing arcs with many of the characters that progress as the series develops.

Called in to investigate the apparent murder of a young twenty-year-old woman named Julie Cooper, Detective Tara Thorpe is led to believe it was an illicit affair after the body is stuffed with wilting flowers. With her team, Tara must solve the case, as meanwhile Detective Blake deals with her newly born baby, while Tara gives her space. Finding a family heirloom, Tara makes a discovery in the bedroom of the victim, and soon begins to realize this crime may not actually be a one-off. Why was Julie killed, can they solve the case of the heirloom, and who is really behind the nefarious murder in the fens?

This story works as a solid mystery, engaging the reader from the outset, and making the most of its compelling premise. Keeping the reader constantly guessing, there’s plenty for the reader to invest themselves in here, with its many twists and turns. Fans will also be satisfied with its character development and world-building, as many of the regulars are now well established.

Mystery at Lovelace Manor

Initially coming out in 2022 on the 17th of May, this first arrived through the Kindle platform, as it would be met by already eagerly awaiting fans. It’s a straightforward mystery novel, and is also the eighth in the ongoing ‘Eve Mallow Mystery’ series of novels continuing on from the other. Following amateur sleuth Eve Mallow, the books can be read in any order, as they all feature self-contained mysteries, although there’s lots for returning fans to enjoy as well.

It’s Lovelace Sunday, and everyone is flocking to the Lovelace Manor to celebrate its history, including TV historian Cammie Harington and amateur sleuth Eve Mallow. When Cammie falls from her hot-air balloon above the manor Eve feels it was no accident, with there being plenty of animosity between Cammie and her family. Alongside her ever faithful dachshund Gus, Eve sets about putting the pieces together, discovering what really happened when Cammie’s balloon fell from the sky. Will Eve be able to find who’s responsible, why did they do it, and what is the real truth behind the mystery at Lovelace Manor?

This story is a creative and fun mystery that really has everything, as there’s so many elements to keep the reader constantly guessing. All the characters are engaging in a witty and entertaining way, allowing the audience to fully escape into the story and mystery. Then there’s the setting itself which really makes for a great set-piece, as the manor itself comes to life, becoming a character in of itself almost.
