The book’s plot is set in Louisiana and it contains the central characters as Susan Wilson and Clint Wolf. At the book’s start, it is mentioned that Clint Wolf is living his life in Louisiana’ swamps after retiring from the post of the police chief of Mechant Loup PD. Following his retirement, he spends one full year being a tour guide. But, when he learns about the discovery of a dead body in a nearby canal, Clint realizes that he cannot stay away from the work of law enforcement forever. So, he decides to join the police department again. But this time, he is given the post of chief investigator and is asked to work beside the new police chief named Susan Wilson. The two begin working together to investigate the canal murder mystery. The police are well versed with finding drowned floating bodies in the large Louisiana waterways. But, the latest body that they came across has 6 bullet wounds in the back and this is something the police force is not used to. Clint Wolf knows it very well that solving this case is not going to be easy for him. When he discovers some important clues that lead him to a big blue truck, he sees some hope. He works out the various angles in this case and ends up unraveling the mystery with Susan’s help.

Another interesting installment of the series is called ‘But Not For Naught’. It was published in 2018 in the Kindle format. The primary characters described in this book include Susan Wilson, Clint Wolf, and Mitch Taylor. The story introduces Mitch Taylor as the owner of a local bar in Mechant Loup. The list keeps on growing with many names getting added every hour, but the one name that the investigators keep a careful watch on is Mitch’s estranged wife.

After investigating for many days Clint and Susan begin to feel that they are getting closer to the killer. But, something happens and the entire complexity of the case gets changed to everyone/s surprise. The new twist in the murder case was already too much Clint Wolf to handle and on top of that he receives an old picture that turns his own life upside down. As a result, he finds himself on the trail looking for answers in a double quest. While he is involved in interrogating the various suspects in Mitch’s murder, he also asks some important questions about his pasts to his mother. Clint wonders if the murder case is more difficult for him to deal with or the act of discovering his past’s secret. He is sure that nothing is going to remain the same when he finds what he is looking for.
