Colin Conway is a mystery fiction author from Eastern Washington who is best known for the “509 Crime” series of novels. For much of his life, he has kept a low profile despite achieving a larger-than-life profile as an author.
He published “Some Degree of Murder” his debut novel with Frank Zafiro in 2012. He has now published more than forty titles spread across several series of novels, collections of short stories, and single-standing novels.
In fact, he has frequently been called one of the most prolific novelists from Spokane, Washington which he calls home.
While his interest in writing initially raised eyebrows with colleagues, he would ultimately have success balancing his writing life with a very good career in commercial real estate.
Unlike his colleagues who prefer to have hobbies in areas such as classic car restoration or golf, there was nothing he loved better than writing.
Conway continues to practice as a commercial real estate agent, even as he publishes his blockbuster works of fiction.
Growing up in Spokane, Colin Conway always loved attending his English classes. Writing was something that he really loved writing as it came very easily to him.
Moreover, he always found joy in his work and this would be evident in the several professions that he worked in.
Following his graduation from high school, he joined the Army and thereafter he got into Eastern Washington University. After graduating from college, all he wanted was to become a real estate professional.
When he graduated, he got into real estate until his career path took a turn as he had a chance to chase his childhood dreams of becoming a street-smart detective like “Starsky” and “Hutch.”
He had always seen himself as “Starsky” as an adult and hence when he was 29 and learned that the police department was conducting a recruitment drive, he decided to take the test.
Conway scored very highly on his test and ended up spending half a decade as a police officer, even as he kept writing on the side.
He did a very good job with the police department and he loved it even though at some point he did not think it was what he wanted to do with the rest of his life.
At some point, Colin Conway got back into real estate as he believed it would provide him with much-needed free time to do some writing on the side.
It was at this time that he learned just how much he loved writing, as he used to write all manner of characters and plots, writing on the weekends and at night.
By this point, he had penned at least three manuscripts for the first three crime fiction works. However, it would take several years and assistance from an agent to get his scripts ready for publishing.
He initially began with a small publisher but ultimately bought back all his novels and became a self-published author.
Colin Conway’s “The Side Hustle” is a fascinating work of fiction in which a personal finance blogger is murdered for his hard work, leaving homicide detectives scrambling to resolve the mystery.
When Jacob Kidwell’s body was found, the police initially believed it was an accident.
Marci Burkett and Quinn Delaney are major crime detectives who are charged with the case and soon unearth layers of deception in Kidwell’s life.
They also discover that someone has been messing with their investigation who it turns out is a friend who thought he could help. But he has only been meddling and creating even more problems for Delaney and Burkett.
It is not long before double-crosses, lies, and secrets are exposed in the hunt for the truth. However, Quinn has his own secret that could just destroy his career and he is not so sure if he can keep it hidden while working on a very difficult case.
It makes for a compelling police procedural with some compelling characters and plots.
“The Long Cold Winter” is a gripping mystery novel that is set in Spokane Washington.
The lead in the novel is a recent widower named Dallas Nash a detective who grieves so much that he finds it difficult even to get out of bed.
He goes to work but his heart is not in it but he needs it so that he can have his mind on something other than his tragic loss. While going to work, he passes by his wife’s grave and once again relives the pain of losing her.
His boss at major crimes intends to ease him back into things and assigns him a cold case which is a homicide that goes back to 1987. Working on the file, Dallas suddenly realizes that the victim is someone known to him as they went to high school together.
He still remembers how they had at one time cruised on the main drag in Spokane one Friday night and seen the girl. One of his friends had said that she was his girlfriend.
Before he gets far with the case, he is summoned to work on a new homicide case in which a body had been found lying in the deep snow of winter. But he has no suspects and no witnesses and has to work on the three-decade murder mystery too.
Colin Conway’s novel “The Blind Trust” is an interesting work of fiction and the third of “The 509 Crime Stories” series of novels.
The lead is Tom Jessup, a Whitman County Sheriff whose only desire is a nice safe county. But things may get very deadly as what had initially looked like a usual death points the sheriff north.
In Spokane, he finds Marci Burkett and Quinn Delaney two Washington Detectives who are working on a double homicide. Their cases seem to be linked by blood, even though nothing is at seems.
To further their investigation Burlkett and Delany have to work with a man they do not trust. He is a very motivated man but the problem is that he does not answer to anyone.
In the meantime, Jessup the sheriff is struggling to find any connection between the cases that stretch across county lines. With deaths mounting, they go in different directions seeking to find the killer the best way they know how.
