Colin Cotterill is one of the noteworthy British authors of the crime fiction genre. He is also a cartoonist and a teacher by profession. Author Cotterill was born on October 2, 1952, in London. He actually holds dual citizenship of England and Australia, but he often lives in Southeast Asia. Author Cotterill writes the novels of the award winning crime series called ‘Dr. Siri’ mystery series. The setting of this series is done in the People’s Democratic & Republic of Laos. Other than this, author Cotterill also works on the Jimm Juree novel series, which is set in southern Thailand. After his birth in London, he completed his academic education and got trained as a teacher. After this, he set himself off to a world tour that has still ended. While he was in Israel, author Cotterill worked as an instructor of Physical Education. Then he worked as a teacher in a primary school in Australia. Author Cotterill even worked as a counselor for the educationally handicapped people of The United States and as a lecturer at a university in Japan. However, he spent the greater part of the latter years of his life in Southeast Asia. There, he taught as well as carried out the training of teachers on the Burmese border and in Thailand. Author Cotterill also spent a few years in Laos, working with the UNESCO. During that time, he wrote a 40-program language series of teaching called as ‘English By Accident’. It was specifically released on the national television in Thailand.

Around 15 years ago, author Cotterill got involved in the act of child protection in Thailand. He even helped to set up a non-profit organization in Phuket and looked after its functioning for a period of two after its establishment. After that, author Cotterill decided to study the issues of child abuse in more detail for 2 more years and then established another NGO in the same region. The next move that he made allowed him to collaborate with ECPAT, which is an international organization for combating child pornography and prostitution. Author Cotterill also established the caregiver training program at ECPAT. All through this time, author Cotterill continued with his passions of writing and cartooning. He kept on contributing to the Bangkok Post with regular columns. But, due to his other works related to the social issues, he could not find much time to write.

When author Cotterill started working with the trafficked children, he found himself very much stimulated to write down his first book titled ‘The Night Bastard’. He received a lot of positive reactions after the publication of the book and this motivated him to stop doing all the other things and start writing full time. And since the year 2001, author Cotterill has contributed a total of 12 novels. A few of them are based on child protection. The last eight books written by author Cotterill are set in Laos during the 1970s. In the year 2009, he received the Dagger In The Library award from the Crime Writers’ Association. When he saw that his books were gaining popularity in Laos, Cotterill worked out a project to send some of these books for the children over there and also sponsored a few trainee teachers. Since the year 2009, author Cotterill has started working as a regular cartoonist for some national publications. As of today, he lives within a fishing community near the Gulf of Siam. He has a large pack of dogs in his house. Recently, author Cotterill has started a program of offering a one month’s shelter to an aspiring crime or thriller writer, who would like to produce a 1st draft of a 1st novel.

The Dr. Siri Paiboun series written by author Collin Cotterill consists of 10 books in total which were published between the years 2004 and 2015. Each book in this series features Dr. Siri Paiboun as the lead character, who is described as a trained physician from France and one of the national coroners of the Republic of Laos. The first book of the series was published under the title ‘The Coroner’s Lunch’ It was released by the Soho Crime publishers in the year 2004. The setting of the plot of this book is done in Laos, during the year 1976. At the beginning of the story, Dr. Siri is described as a 72 year medical doctor, who has recently been appointed as the national coroner of Laos. His lab mostly remains less funded and his boss seems to be a rather incompetent person. Even his support staff appears to be quirky. In order to get through all the frustrating days in Laos, Dr. Siri makes use of his sense of humor. When one of the dead bodies of a woman arrives at his morgue for postmortem, he realizes that the woman might have been murdered. Knowing that she was the wife of one of the prominent politicians, Dr. Siri decides to find out the truth. Therefore, he takes the help of his team and goes on to face spying neighbors, government secrets, botched romances, deadly dangers, and victim haunts. In the end, Dr. Siri is required to find out a way of balancing the wills of the dead woman and that of the political party of her politician husband.

The second book in the series was published under the title ‘Thirty Three Teeth’. It was also released by the Soho Crime publishers in the year 2005, and is set in Laos just like the previous book of the series. At the beginning of this book, it is depicted that Dr. Siri is one of the last medical practitioners left in Laos. He gets drafted as a national coroner, but does not seem to have training for the new job. But, his curiosity plays an important role in working his way out with the unknown things. When he attempts to unravel the murder mysteries, he does not fear the wrath of the political parties because he feels that the spirits of all the dead are there to comfort him. Dr. Siri goes on to carry out a number of autopsies for solving the mysterious murders. He tries to find the truth behind the deaths which appear to be bear bites and also to explain the reason behind the death of a government official who ran at full speed and fell from the window of his house located on the 7th floor. Dr. Siri also tried to find out the origins of the dead bodies that are discovered from a crashed helicopter in the Luang Prabang temple. In the end, it turns out that everything is not as calm and peaceful as it seems in the new Communist of Laos.

I loved the Dr. Siri books and would like for you to write a book about Dr. Siri’s life as a young doctor fighting in the jungles. I liked him so much and appreciated his sense of humor
