Connie Shelton is one of the renowned authors from America, who likes to write thriller, suspense, and cozy mystery books. She is well known for writing the Samantha Sweet novel series and the Charlie Parker Mysteries. As a child, author Shelton was very fond of reading mysterious stories. She used to make frequent visits to the library and used to bring at least one book at home for reading. In addition to writing and reading, she likes to travel a lot. Whenever Shelton is not busy with her writing works, she can be seen being involved in teaching writing courses and speaking at conventions and conferences. Her hobbies and interests besides writing cozy mystery books include cooking, visiting beaches, drawing, painting, and doing enjoyable things in life. Author Shelton is happily married and lives along with her beloved husband in New Mexico. She started her writing career in the year 1995 with the release of her debut book called Deadly Gamble. This novel marked the beginning of her writing career as well as her Charlie Parker book series. Author Shelton says that being a writer of mystery novels means to have fun while writing and making a connection with the readers. When she attempted to write her debut book in 1985, she did not have any clue about how to write a mystery book. It took her 2 years to finish writing 500 pages of the book and when she finally did it, Shelton felt extremely excited. Author Shelton entered into a Writers competition in Southwest with this book and won the third place. Soon after, many publishers began making offers to her for publishing that book. But, without showing much interest towards publication, author Shelton continued to write her 2nd and 3rd books. Then came the time of publication and Shelton did not look back from then on. Initially, she was mainly focussed on writing multiple books based on Charlie Parker’s character. After contributing with a total of 10 books, Shelton thought of branching out and this gave way for her second book series.
During her high school days, Shelton used to find ways of earning extra pocket money by baking and decorating cakes. She used this experience to develop Samantha Sweet’s character. In the year 2009, Shelton decided to switch her publisher and this allowed her to experience a different adventure. Seeing the availability of her books in Kindle editions made her very excited. Eventually, author Shelton achieved the highest point of her career when she reached the number one spot on Amazon for multiple times. She was included in the list top 50 bestsellers by the USA Today. This has helped Shelton to achieve more name and fame in her successful writing career. Along with being a bestselling author, Shelton is also known to be an award winning essayist. Many of her works have been released in small as well as major anthologies. Some of the short stories written by Shelton have won a few prizes as well. Besides writing novels, author Shelton has been a commercial pilot of hot air balloon. She has achieved the women’s world record of the highest altitude. Both Shelton and her husband are fond of pet animals. They have a couple of pet dogs in their northern New Mexico home. They are named as Missy and Daisy.
The Samantha Sweet series written by Connie Shelton is comprised of 11 books in total, which were released between the years 2010 and 2016. Each of the books in this series feature the chief protagonist as Samantha Sweet. She is depicted as a caretaker, who works for USDA. Samantha resides in New Mexico and runs her own pastry shop. An initial book written in the series is entitled ‘Sweet Masterpiece’. It was published in 2010 by the Secret Suitcase publication. At the start of the book, it is shown that Samantha earns her living by working as a legal caretaker. But, her interest lies in opening her pastry shop, called Sweet’s Sweets. However, some crazy things seem to be happening in her life recently. During one of her caretaker jobs, Samantha finds a dying woman who insists her to take a wooden box. She does not realize that the woman was a witch until some strange things begin to happen in her life. When she visits another property for break-in, Samantha discovers an unnamed grave and calls the authorities to investigate. The owner of the property had gone missing some months before and now Samantha thinks that the body inside the grave is that of the owner’s. Soon, Samantha comes to know about a possible connection between the owner’s murder and a popular artist. Samantha also finds a false will which points towards fraud. The deputy who was investigating the case seems attracted towards Samantha Sweet. She too seems excited with this new opportunity of romance in her life. In between all this, she finds it difficult to keep up with the orders at her shop. All in all, the story appears to be a delightful and romantic mystery.
The next book in the series is titled as ‘Sweet’s Sweets’. It was released by the Smashwords in 2011. At the beginning of the story, Samantha Sweet is shown working very hard to run her shop. But, her profession as a legal caretaker always comes in her way to keep things going. Samantha is asked to visit a new property and take care of the things over there as per her contract with USDA. When Samantha reaches the place, she feels overwhelmed with the new place. Shortly after, she finds a blood soaked garment among the things collected from the property and decides to call the police to investigate. Deputy Sheriff Beau Cardwell arrives at the scene, but looks a little under pressure. Samantha is joined by Beau Cardwell as the two begin to look for other clues and evidences. They discover that the blood-soaked coat is just a small part of a more complicated situation. As Samantha cannot get anywhere close to solving the puzzle, she decides to take the help of the magical box once again. The powers of the magical box help her unwind the entangled case. Finally, Beau Cardwell and Samantha Sweet go on to find the victim as well as the culprit. Samantha Sweet helps to serve the justice once again with her dedication and determination.
