The Book of Abominations (2014) Hardcover  Paperback  Kindle

Conrad Jones is a bestselling British author of thriller, mystery, horror, and suspense stories. He has successfully written more than 20 books in his career so far and is particularly famous for writing the Soft Target Series, the Detective Superintendent Alec Ramsey series, the Hunting Angeles series, the DI Braddick series, and the Anglesey Murders series. Conrad has also penned a few single novels and a short story collection called The Book of Abominations. Prior to beginning his career in the field of novel writing, Conrad worked for twelve years in the world’s biggest brand of quick-service restaurants, McDonalds. In March 1993, a shop located near the restaurant he was managing was bombed by the terrorist organization called the IRA. This shocking near-death experience fueled Conrad’s interest in finding out the extremist terrorists’ root causes and their reasoning of feeling justified in killing innocent people. The subsequent research made him come up with an intriguing story that became the manuscript of his debut novel called Soft Target.

Following the worldwide success of this 2008 novel, Conrad added a few more titles to the series and went on to create several other book series as well. Currently, in his forties, Conrad hails from Tarbock Green, a sleepy town located on the outskirts of Liverpool. He completed his schooling from Prescott Comprehensive studying for some time in Newborough preparatory school. Conrad’s family moved to the Welsh port on the Anglesey island just after he finished his schooling. As his parents were involved in various trades and moved around a lot, he also moved with them. Some of the trades that Conrad worked in while moving with his parents during the early of his life include kitchen assistant, hairdressing assistant, construction of playgrounds, etc. Finally, Conrad branched out and laid the foundation of his own business, where he ran things being a market trader.

After spending several years in Wales and the regions surrounding it, Conrad joined the McDonalds Restaurant as a trainee manager in 1989. He worked for the popular restaurant chain between 1989 and 2002 and had risen to the post of Business Consultant/area manager, working in the franchised and corporate departments. In March 1993, while he was on his regular duty managing the store located in Warrington’s Bridge Station, he witnessed the explosion of a couple of bombs outside his store. The attack was carried out by the Irish Republican Army and had resulted in many casualties and deaths of 2 young boys. It had a deep impact on Conrad as well as many others there. Conrad was led on the path of a life-long interest in the mindset and motivation of criminal gangs. This experience is linked to Conrad’s early desire for writing books on this subject.

In his early books, Conrad has described the adventures of a sophisticated and advanced counter-terrorist unit called the Terrorist Task Force headed by an enigmatic leader named John Tankersley. However, the later books of Conrad follow the adventures of the Major Investigation Team and Detective Alec Ramsey. In 2007, Conrad undertook an eleven-week tour of the United States. A day before his flight, the news of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann started doing rounds on TV everywhere. Conrad followed the news with a keen interest wherever he went. Later, it inspired him to write a book called The Child Taker. While still on the tour, Conrad’s house was burgled and robbed. The authorities informed him that nothing could be done and the coming back would be a waste of time. So, he decided to continue his tour.

With no employment and little money in his hand, Conrad decided to begin writing a story while sitting on a beach in Florida, which became his debut novel, Soft Target. Conrad never put down his pen after that. So far, his thrillers have been downloaded more than 200,000. Seven of his novels have entered the top 100 kindle books, three of which have reached the number one spot. Currently, Conrad is in touch with a good agent who has helped him acquire a 3-book deal with the Thames River Press. He enjoys writing and spends most of the time in front of his computer.

A well-known book series penned by author Conrad Jones is known as the DI Braddick Series. It began in 2016 and features Detective Inspector Marcus Braddick in the lead role. Braddick is shown joining the Major Investigation Team as a DI under the leadership of DS Alec Ramsey, another well-known protagonist created by Conrad, and goes on to become the successor of Ramsey by replacing him as the next DS. Conrad has set all the stories of this series in Liverpool. The debut book of the series is entitled ‘Brick’. It was released by the Thriller Factory publication in 2016. The book opens by showing that a teenage boy becomes the victim of an attack that he did not provoke while he was walking his pet dog. Following the tragic attack, a murder investigation process is set in motion. What follows next is a series of cruel incidents that make the innocent members of the victim’s family targets of a deadly terror campaign. The detectives of the MIT try their best to keep the violence under control, but they are unable to stop several members of a family of organized crime in sending shock waves on the entire planet.

The second installment of this series is called ‘Shadows’. It was published by the Bloodhound Books in 2017. Initially, it is depicted that DI Braddick gets involved in the investigation of a case that deals with drugs, suicide, and murder. While trying to hijack a drug deal, things go sideways and result in the murder of a man and the disappearance of a key eyewitness. Later, several victims are found hanging from an abandoned fish storage facility’s rafter. This shocking discovery on the coastline of Anglesey baffles the police as well as the entire city. When Braddick comes across a deserted trawler near the crime scene, he succeeds in putting the pieces together. It is later discovered that a notorious crime family of the Russians is responsible for the unstable situation of the city.
