Corey Lynn Fayman is an American published author.

Fayman’s hometown is San Diego, located in California. Even though there is plenty of light there, he tries to avoid it as much as possible. There he has had many jobs, including a keyboard player, a sound technician, a sound designer, and an interactive designer for different organizations. He has taught at different colleges as well.

He first came up with his character named Rolly Waters out of what he calls boredom in addition to his literary ambition. The character is a detective that plays guitar and first showed up in his book Black’s Beach Shuffle. The debut novel in the Rolly Waters series was nominated for a San Diego Book Award.

The book was successful and Fayman was so encouraged by it doing well that he got started writing the follow up novel, titled Border Field Blues. The book similarly did well and in 2013 won the Genre Award at the Hollywood Book Festival. While the author shares a few things in common with his protagonist, he also has some differences. For one, he’s only capable of drinking a few beers before having to nap..

He is married, and his wife has stayed by his side for perhaps more years than they expected. They both love taking spontaneous driving adventures. They also share a dry sense of humor. Despite living in a town with a temperate climate, he still manages to keep that arid attitude fully intact.

Corey Lynn Fayman is the creator and the author of the Rolly Waters Mystery series. The series first made its debut in 2006 with the publication of the first novel in the series, Black’s Beach Shuffle. A while later Fayman wrote the second novel and in 2013 Border Field Blues was published. The third novel in the series came out in 2015 and is titled Desert City Diva. The fourth novel came out in 2020 and is titled Ballast Point Breakdown.

Black’s Beach Shuffle is the first novel in the mystery series by Fayman. Here readers get to meet the main character of Rolly Waters for the first time. He works as a private eye part time and is a rock musician.

His band happens to be performing one night at a huge party for an Internet start up that is on the rise. is the site that has everyone in San Diego buzzing about its success. Rolly needs to come back to get his guitar, so when he returns to the site after hours to go to the mansion of the host to get his instrument, not everyone’s around.

This is precisely the moment that he finds a corpse that is floating in the pool. It’s not the best situation to be in, and he’s discovered something that is clearly a murder or looks a lot like it. What he finds will start off a series of events that are about to absorb him into the online world and even threatens to take him all the way back into his dark past.

Full of twists and turns, this contemporary mystery series is sure to keep you guessing. The unique characters and humor as you follow Rolly’s attempt to investigate this mystery will have you following along as he goes from industrial parks to blues clubs, penthouses and taco shops, academic halls to the shores of Black’s Beach. Can he figure out who committed this murder and why? Read the first book in the series to find out!

Border Field Blues is the second fictional novel in Fayman’s Rolly Waters mystery series. This mystery takes place along the border of San Diego and Tijuana. Here classic rock combines with politics, sex and even murder in a compelling story that you won’t want to put down.

When a bandit comes across a youthful border crosser, they have a violent interaction. Little do they know that this will create a bond between the daughter of the bandit and the boy.

Rolly Waters knows nothing of this. He’s simply gotten up early one morning and the private detective has a purpose for being at Border Field Park. He’s doing a favor for his friend Max, who’s an avid bird watcher. They’re going to see if they can find the culprits who have intentionally vandalized a nesting area that is very important for the birds.

Even though he’s a private eye, Rolly has his doubts about whether they’re going to actually be able to track down the people responsible. Still, it’s worth taking a shot, so Rolly starts the process. He does his detective work and has no idea that he’s about to come across all types of people, from a border vigilante to a vaquero and even an older rock fan. Nor does he expect that an orderly is going to show up at the house holding a scalpel and trying to track down a prostitute.

Things are getting stranger and stranger when it comes to this case. He knows things have gone south when he gets the coroner’s report handed to him by fellow detective Bonnie. Now it is officially deadly. Bonnie’s case starts to increasingly be linked to Rolly’s own, so they decide to join forces. The two are now in a partnership that is about to take them places they never saw coming.

Their dynamic might be prickly at first, but Bonnie and Rolly want to work together to solve their cases. Together they’ll enter into different worlds, from the trade of human trafficking to abuse and old cases involving murder that could be connected to their own. As Bonnie works on her investigation, her temporary companion is busy trying to get tips from his network of pals and link a red haired woman to a video game.

Rolly is racing against the clock to try and solve this case and save a young girl. Meanwhile, political organizations are gearing up for a confrontation. The Mexican girl is Rolly’s sole connection to various crimes. With music, family drama, and all sorts of danger and temptation in the mix, Rolly hopes he can get to the bottom of his case and soon. Will the pair be successful? Pick up this book to find out!
