The Einstein Papers
The Einstein Papers is the first book in the John Taft series. The series feature John Taft, an anti-terrorist detective known for his ability to smoke the bad guys out of their hideout. In this story, the Chinese are about to unravel a theory that has been missing since Einstein died. If this theory dubbed the Unified Field Theory is unraveled, the Chinese would have a devastating weapon in their hands. They will be in a position to use Gravity, electricity, and Magnetics to their advantage. This can only mean that the US has to act fast. Otherwise, it will be one position lower in the world order.
John Taft and his colleagues chase throughout the Eastern seaboard for the terrorists. The Americans want to get the papers with the details so they can develop the superweapon before the Chinese. However, their hunt is unsuccessful as the terrorists they seek are still at large. The Chinese end up stirring trouble in the Middle East to cover their tracks. In the end, American scientists get their hands on the complete formula only to discover the results are different compared to what they anticipated.
This story comes laden with historical backgrounds on Albert Einstein. The author highlights one of the theories that Einstein solved right before his death. This theory, unlike the rest of Einstein’s works, was not published due to its destructive nature. Through vivid descriptions, the author describes the race to the finish line as both the Chinese and Americans fight to get their hands on the complete formula. The story slowly builds momentum, and the flawless narration gives the story quite an edge.
Taft, Larry Martinez, and the rest of the good guys look like they are outwitted in this war for a good portion of the book. As the bad guys keep getting away, the duo intensifies their search and ask for support whenever necessary. The suspense will keep you at the edge of your seat as you try to guess what happens next in the story. It is refreshing to see that the good guys finally win, even though the chase leaves them breathless.
If you are looking for action-packed adventure stories that come with a bit of history, The Einstein Papers is a great choice. The pace here is relentless, and you are going to have a hard time putting the book down. It helps that the author has deviated from the norm to focus on particulars of a major heist as opposed to the common unraveling of a rogue’s plot. You are going to love joining Taft and his partner on this adventure.
Tremor
Tremor is the second book in the John Taft series. Here Taft and Martinez are confronted by a different type of trouble. Over a century ago, Nikola Tesla made a great invention. The American inventor comes up with a device that could transfer electricity without the need for wires. While this could have been his greatest achievement, his discovery comes with such a terrifying nightmare. All this remained hidden until now.
NIA, through its intelligence, traces the Power surges in Europe to earthquake activity. It doesn’t take long for this agency to figure out what is happening. It is evident that something has to be done fast, or there will be grave consequences to deal with in the near future. NIA Agent John Taft is sent to investigate this phenomenon. What he discovers is a terror conspiracy involving a fanatical Serbian nationalist who has created a machine capable of creating an apocalyptic earthquake in any location in the world. The terrorists are already making use of this machine to fell capitals at will. Taft has a responsibility to fight an unstable enemy whose only desire is to gain control of the world, or otherwise destroy it.
As Taft investigates the Nikola Tesla museum, he decides to also check out the museum’s curator Nadia Slavia. A night of passion follows when Nadia invites the special agent to her apartment. As Nadia sleeps, Taft sees the perfect opportunity to get copies for the museum keys. However, Taft makes a mistake that ends up opening more doors than he anticipated. Nadia is obviously suspicious of Taft’s intentions. She reaches out to her brother, who happens to be a Serbian agent. Taft finds himself cornered and is forced to come clean on his scheme designed to save the world. Fortunately for Taft, he finds willing helpers in Nadia and her brother. The trio works to lay a trap to root the perpetrators of the earthquakes out. By planting decoys fitted with locator chips, Taft is sure that the bad guys will be caught.
As Taft is trying to lure a dangerous extremist, his partner Larry Martinez is working behind the scenes to find more details on the Tesla device. Martinez joins forces with a thriller author who helps him understand just how powerful the Tesla device is. The evil perpetrator going by the name Galadin Ratzovik is currently testing his abilities at the stock market. Ratzovik has with him a captive scientist who he expects to finish working on the device so he can execute his grand finale. In the middle of this investigation, Taft will be recalled to the US so he can work closely with Martinez as the army continues with the Serbian search.
Tremor is an action-packed thriller featuring a charming agent, a great invention, and a terrorist who would do anything to get his way. Join Taft on a journey through different nations as he tries to catch the terrorist. The pace in this story is relentless, and the book comes with unexpected twists and turns almost in every chapter.
