An American journalist and writer, Craig Fehrman is well known for the historical perspective that he brings to his work. Writing history and non-fiction, he’s written on a range of different subjects, ranging from US politicians and presidents, to modern pop-music and rock bands. This has seen him draw in a wide and eclectic audience, all looking for what he has to say next, speaking in a direct and straight to the point manner. Reaching readers from all over the world, he’s definitely managed to make a name for himself, creating a brand and style that’s immediately identifiable as his.

It’s not just his unique and idiosyncratic approach to writing that has readers coming back for more, but the interesting subjects he writes about. Coming to understand it both inside and out, he really gets a feel for what he’s speaking about, making sure he really leaves a strong impression on his audience. Educating the reader, he writes with both authenticity and passion, something which rubs off on his audience, as it’s difficult to put the book down. Allowing the subjects of his books to speak for themselves as well, they definitely come alive off the page, as they make their mark.

Making sure to research everything he’s writing about inside out, he leaves nothing out when it comes to ensuring he’s covered the subject. This is why he’s become bestselling author, as well as having a profile prior to writing his books, as he’d write for a number of big-name publications. His books are the accumulative effort of much of his previous writing, with his engaging passion for history and music. There’s more to come as well, as he’s definitely a writer to watch in the years to come, with plenty more titles planned in the pipeline.

Early and Personal Life:

Growing up nearby to Dillsboro, Indiana, Craig Fehrman would show a passion for history and literature from a young age. This would evolve over time, allowing him to develop his own style and approach to the form, building a brand worldwide. Writing for numerous different publications, including the ‘Wall Street Journal’, the ‘New York Times’, and the ‘Washington Post’, he’d gain a massive reputation.

Much of this would be focused upon his keen interest in history, largely writing about American politics, which would also define many of his political non-fiction books. Attending the University of Southern Indiana, he’d graduate in 2007, before going on to study for a PhD at Yale University. Currently living in Bloomington, Indiana, with his wife and two children, he continues to write to this very day.

Writing Career:

Initially bringing out a smaller non-fiction title on the Kindle back in 2013, one of the first releases to come from Craig Fehrman was an extended profile of rock band ‘Cage the Elephant’. Looking at the band and the music scene that they came from, it’s title ‘Home Grown’ shows how they formed on their own terms. Getting behind the scenes, Fehrman would provide an account that was interesting for not only fans of the band, but rock music in general. He’d later write his first full book in 2020, with two political titles based around his keen interest in American presidential publishing history.

The Best Presidential Writing: From 1789 to the Present

First brought out through the ‘Avid Reader Press/Simon Schuster’ publishing imprint, this would originally come out on the 13th of October in 2020. A historical work of non-fiction, it’s a document of presidential writing ranging from 1789 right up until current times. This then gives a more complete picture of America as a whole, showing its political development through the ages.

Collecting together various writings, passages, and speeches from the American presidents, this seeks to not only celebrate their achievements, but to also go behind the scenes. Curating these important words that shaped a nation, Fehrman seeks to keep them documented, as they stand the test of time. Remembering their legacy, he brings them to life once again, making sure that readers really feel the full impact. Researching them and putting them into context, he keeps the words vibrant, allowing them to essentially speak for themselves.

This is a must for not only those with an interest in history, but also anybody wanting to learn more on the historical roots of America. Making sure to leave as little out as possible, this is one of the most comprehensive collections of its kind to date, giving readers a real feel for the past. There’s also plenty of background information too, which is important when taking it all into account as a whole.

Author in Chief: The Untold Story of Our Presidents and the Books They Wrote

Similar to the previous book, this was also a collection of presidential writings, this time focusing on the books they wrote during their lifetime. Released it a few months prior to the previous book as well, this would be the first of the two non-fiction titles, this one being released on the 11th of February in 2020. It was also published through the ‘Avid Reader Press/Simon Schuster’ label, and would contain many historical accounts from throughout American history.
Looking at books such as Lincoln’s ‘Political Debates’, which saw him collecting all his speeches together, and how these efforts allowed presidents to win the elections. Examining the history of the presidential biography too, it looks into their past as well, and their own place in American history. Moving right up to current times, it looks at how these books have affected various different presidential profiles. Breaking it all down with a clear detailed layout, it charts most of this often otherwise unseen publishing history.

There’s a lot of details that would’ve typically been passed over, but are extremely telling when it comes to the characters of the presidents. Providing a window into the past, it really shines a light on an otherwise unseen way of life, illuminating the halls of power. It also effectively brings to life the history of America too, giving readers further insight into how the nation came to be.
